Thanks alcy, the only coupon that works for me is GEW16. I believe I used the others before. The domains I have in godaddy have expired 3 days ago and I need to transfer them within some days, not sure how long I will be able to do that with godaddy. hopefully a better promo will come soon..

i think gd lets you expediate transfer so you can wait up to 38-39 days after expiry.

but I'd still double check it with them. call or chat.

Personally, I'm hoping for some transfer deals on what used to be cyber Monday. I have some domains that will hit the 60 day mark on that day.

I thought you had to pay additional recovery fees to transfer after 30 days?

everything depends on registry
different rules everywhere

we were talking about godaddy.

so no recovery fees for transfer out. 40 days max... at godaddy.

...and recovery fees exist to renew your domain at gd after X days past expiry

chat with them to find out value of X. probably around 15-20 days.

cheers

X = 18 days. Although you can have your rep override this up to 25 days if you have a premier account.

I asked about the 30 days because I just had this conversation with my Godaddy guy. Here's what he told me:

You can transfer a domain out of GoDaddy to another registrar for up to 30 days, however itโ€™s worth noting that canceling privacy on an expired domain as well as obtaining the authorization code can take a few extra days since those tasks can no longer be completed through the interface. For that reason, I generally recommend sticking to the 25 day marker for either scenario so you allow enough time for the added steps involved with a transfer.
Here's the redemption pricing schedule he gave me:
  • Days Late 1 โ€“ 25 is $0
  • Days Late 26 โ€“ 32 is $20
  • Days Late 33(plus) is $80

well they probably want you to be on safe side.. so of course they won't tell you to begin transfer on day 38.

however ,as far as I know, when coms to transfer out past expiry ON GODADDY, there is no such thing as recovery (redemption) fees. those only apply to renewing domain at gd.

on gd to transfer out, you just get the code and do it for free. up to 40 days.
do I recommend starting transfer on day 37-38-39. no. but you do your research and know your odds and make sure yo don't run out of time to get to your new registrar

another reason to love godaddy (well for me at least)... 40 day transfer out with no fee at all is porbably the most generous policy around.

cheers

Any active promotion for .NET transfer/renewal?

Currently 47% off at Godaddy, just only for $8.99, plus $0.18 ICANN fee = $9.17
