I've threatened to leave NP before. I've done it before - I suicided my account - and got 7pt infraction for creating a duplicate when I decided to rejoin

I'm the Brett Favre of Namepros.

I usually end on a frustrated note fed up with various things that just rub me the wrong way.

This note is different. This note is NOT me leaving. I've accepted that I can't leave. I won't leave because I respect the opinions of many and there is always something to learn. I have an unhealthy fascination with marketing and intellectual property but I wonder where things are going...

Grace Delete. Reboot Don't Hand Reg.

This is not an appraisal. It's obnoxious. It ruins the atmosphere and it makes "noobs" feel unwelcome. When this "appraisal" appears post after post....it makes noobs feel like an a$$ and you look like one.

[2]Trademarks OVER and OVER
Every thread seems to talk about Trademarks. They're no good. Everyone needs to get that already.

[3]Trademark Sales in the by the Senior members and Mods?
Namepros would never condone them....then we have an obvious TM auction ? Yes its a generic name but links to a large company with a multi-billion deal..

[4]Shady Practices at NameJet.. and ..?
Who are those people who bid and disappear? Why can't they do anything about it? What are those "calls to insiders" at registries anyway? Get "to know" you rep at name.com nudge nudge wink wink.

Anyone?

Talk about the pros and cons of an extension. Really. It's interesting. Why do you think US sucks has a future... .TV... .CO .. .ME .Whatever. But quit with the domainer must act as marketing agent for the registries. They are here to make you spend money.

So you hate an extension. That's fair. Just quit posting "reg fee" appraisals.. We get it already.. You hate .mobi.

These are non-exact numbers from just Google. Quit quoting them like they are gospel

1) Telling people to Grace Delete is an appraisal. It telling someone that the name is appraised at zero and the amount that one might get with an GD refund is best money in the name. Us been around the blockers know who your quoting.

2)"Every thread seems to talk about Trademarks" Thats just life as a domainer, When someone offers up a name to be appraised it would be totally wrong not to mention possible trademark problems. Yet every so often someone likes to jump on responsible people who mentioning them.

And reports are that Brett Favre is truly going to retire this year.

If people asked for appraisals with more detail I'd definitely expect more. Even when it's just a straight appraisal request.. I think its rude to have an air of

"You're An Idiot. Get Your Money Back. Signed Me (Smarter than You)"

I didn't quote MG directly - I just had read FOUR posts in a row where he said just that and nothing more. The statement wasn't meant to single him out - I actually think he has a lot of good things to say AND would ALMOST ALWAYS consider his opinion as having merit - if he says GD - it likely is a GD. This is why I read four in a row (well the first two - the last two I wanted to see if he would say more.. nope).

By all means recommend Grace Delete but just add something. It's grammatically awkward, it's not really something that has commercial value because ... it's in the .bs extension competing with 1,000,000 dot coms with the same subject... it's 200 characters long!!! The site was blacklisted etc.. etc.

If all the senior members just posted that "GD You idiot" - then there would be no point in even having the discussions - 90% is crap. We could all sit there and wait for someone to come in with Social.com or Mortgage.US or Media.TV or Dresden.de but those people aren't likely to give a hoot what people here say anyway.

This is beyond a response but sort of a digression.

Domaining is a strange industry. I've never met such a confused rabble of people who on the one hand "help" and on the other hand are "disparaging" and on the other keep so much "to themselves".

Only the rarest of information is actually confidential.. not telling people how to get a drop list ? Achieves Asshat status... how you can a pre-drop lock on a domain... now that's information you keep to yourself.

When I venture into the appraisal section I TRY to be gentle and TRY to always explain my reasoning, but after seeing the umpteenth $0-reg fees/GD domain it isn't easy! We've all registered (and renewed ) our share of stinkers, but sheesh - I just wish people would reg better domains !!!

I am guilty of at least pumping the .uk extension and I unashamedly admit it. Guilty as charged, but I only do that because it has proved itself over 25 years of existence and is one of the strongest in the world. It does not actually need my help now, it is not like the .xxx that will only succeed if people drive everyone into a frenzy to buy everything in sight.

I also think that if appraising a domain as grace delete you should explain why but that is just me, John, Brad, yourself and others have your own way of doing things...I just hate one word posts as they contribute nothing and don't help in the long run, they simply make people even more confused.

[18] If you have been here for several years then you should really have some idea of what you are doing, and really shouldn't need to have every domain you acquired appraised. And if you have been here for several years it doesn't automatically give you any kind of seniority since you haven't posted for over six of them.
