Yes, it makes a lot of difference. For example almost all backorders are useless, unless you locate the proper place to backorder at. If the name were to be registered with GoDaddy - expect the name to go to auction at TDNAM - a Backorder in this instance is just about useless (unless its a name that no one wants and it falls through the cracks).

Another example is Network Solutions - SnapNames pretty much is the only place to backorder a decent name there because they recieve their expired domains for auction. Same with Register.com

This particular company, Im not sure where and when .co.uk's become available. You may want to call the registrar and ask what the status and process is. If it is sent to auction first, or if a backordering service (like SnapNames, Pool) will have first crack at it.

should have mentioned. The name I am after is a .com that is registered with that registrar. I have done a back order with godaddy to try and get it.

So when do you think this .com should be come available to register?

Thanks,
Damien.

Im not positive on when the domain will drop, however I can tell you that if it is a Solid Name - you may want to consider Backordering it at Snap or Pool - GoDaddy's backorder service is a joke and will only capture the name if none of the other services do. Your almost better hand regging a domain, then doing a godaddy backorder.

:( yeah, i ordered a backorder on another .com that I thought many people wouldnt want - the domain was originally registered with godaddy and they still didnt get it - ENOM got it - and by the whois, i think it was ENOM them selfs not a customer of them. The name was poccnr.com

The problem is that even Domains that are registered with Godaddy would be a mistake to backorder from. GoDaddy sends all domains to TDNAM - if you backorder it, your backorder acts as the first bid. Problem with that is if you bid on a domain name, thats like drawing a highlighter over it for other domainers. Your bringing attention to a domain that may not have gotten any, until you pointed it out.

Unfortunately even in GoDaddy's own system, their backorders are just about garbage.

Just a headsup, the domain was dropped and now being held by CapitolDomains, a well known domain taster. If no traffic, you might be able to reg by wednesday.

Thanks Asian for the headsup! I did get the domain name thanks ot your advice!

How does that work? If it expires and a company/person gets it.. why is it dropped again with in a week or so?

For anyone who is unaware of the meaning of POCCNR - its the russian spelling of 'Russia'

Thanks again! :)
