Yes, it makes a lot of difference. For example almost all backorders are useless, unless you locate the proper place to backorder at. If the name were to be registered with GoDaddy - expect the name to go to auction at TDNAM - a Backorder in this instance is just about useless (unless its a name that no one wants and it falls through the cracks).
Another example is Network Solutions - SnapNames pretty much is the only place to backorder a decent name there because they recieve their expired domains for auction. Same with Register.com
This particular company, Im not sure where and when .co.uk's become available. You may want to call the registrar and ask what the status and process is. If it is sent to auction first, or if a backordering service (like SnapNames, Pool) will have first crack at it.
