The poll question. Simple and straight to the point, to get a current overview of NP members.

When looking for something specific on the web, the 'majority' of the time do you....

1. Type-in the name of the product/service/topic in your browser followed by .com?

2. Use other methods to find it, such as search engines, links from favorite sites (etc)?

Please vote above. Thanks!

*I'm planning a "part 2" discussion thread to follow later, after the poll runs a while.

Only a small % of people search for something by guessing a domain, however most people type a domain in when they know where they want to go.

I think this poll will be correct for the sample of "domainers" and similar.

But I think a larger % do just type in names (Otherwise I'd never get any type-ins on some of my parked names).

I picked 2, simply because now I know when I do a type in, most of the time it's just a landing page. I would like to read a little info on the sites, so now I go to search engines. So yes, in the beginning when I was new to the internet everything was type-in. I think as people get more experienced with the internet they will go directly to a search engine. Just IMHO :)

Great Poll !

"Use other methods to find it, such as search engines, links from favorite sites (etc)? "

Google is always my first source ..... I only type in ____.com as a Domainer ... just to see if it is there or Developed ~ :)

I was impressed when I first saw how much type-in traffic a generic word can get. As all4cost I have just typed a word in the browser when I’m curious about what has been developed in the domain.

Odd time's I would do option 1, but generally option 2.

Generally option 1 if its something like "newkitchen" :p

I usually try a google search first. Eventually, I may try seeing what's on the domain, but that's usually not anywhere near first.

However, remember, this is experienced people you are asking. A lot of newbies don't know the difference between a search entry and the address line, or don't know the real power of search engines. Many don't even know the PPC pages they get are not really search engines, but Paid listing services with limited choices. Therefore the answer may be different for those off this forum.

I guess sometimes I guess because it's kind of obvious they would have it since they have the trademark but usually I just use Google
