domains drop after 30 days, they have a redemption period, daily drop for most extensions is 2 pm daily EST.

Search for "LifeCycle of a Domain":

http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/gtld-lifecycle.htm

Each TLD has different drop times.

Bear in mind that if the domain is good IT WILL NOT DROP.

Erdy has a number of decent posts on this subject on NP.. just search.

Depending on the current registrar and partners it will end up at auction somewhere - TDNAM, Namejet.

yea it was already listed on sedo -no interest
listed on namejet - no interest
a weird connection to - http://www.fabulous.com/ - i doubt they have any interest either

some relation to http://www.hostsphere.com/

after all the research i finally got in touch with some people that are in some way related to the doamin at hostsphere only to be told my offer was rejected

this particular domain is of personal interest and not so much commercial...i dont get what all the mess is all about

Well. If had gone through Namejet without interest you should have just been patient :)

I'd be surprised if it drops now. Probably renewed already.

Still. The lifeycle link is a good one and should help out others if they search for the same thing.

you're absolutely right
it did get renewed i checked the domain in question with 3-4 different whois lookup sites and some of them showed a new expiration date of 2012...that was a very "fml" moment

I think that it also has a slightly different time period depending on which domain registrar you use. I have noticed different times of domains going back on the open market when using different registrars.

It may not be renewed. During the grace period, registry may have added one year to the expiration date.

See if the status is ONHOLD. This means that the real expiry is likely a year less than it states.

If you contacted them I doubt this is the case.

A lot of people let domains "expire" and gauge interest before renewing. There's no penalty for waiting 30 days. In fact, domains can be sold at GoDaddy and Enom auction and still be renewed by the registrant. At Dynadot it doesn't even cost extra! You can see an auction bids and then after the fact renew.

Your contacting may not have had any impact.
