What's GoDaddy got that Name.com hasn't got?

I have a bunch of names reg'd at GoDaddy, and have recently registered a bunch at Name.com. I'm thinking of just transferring the rest to Name.com because Name.com has a quicker leaner interface and cleaner faster registration process.

Some have said Name.com is good, others (in 2007) expressed concerns over support responsiveness. Is anyone aware of a serious problem with Name.com, or any security issues, or technical issues I should be concerned about?

A Custom Chopper, sexy birds hanging around him, ads on Superbowl ...I could go on :guilty:

On a more serious note, I'd consider thinking about Answerable.com, it's uncluttered, very quick support and free privacy if you need it...have'nt heard of any security issues so far.

I have some stuff on answerable too, but of all the registrars I'm using, GoDaddy, Answerable, EnCirca and Name.com, name.com has the cleanest fast 'pertiest' interface I've seen, and seems to provide all the services and configurability I need, although I reg'd preso.tv yesterday and that's not resolving. I have a service request (e-mail) into name.com about that, so I'll see how that goes.

As for 'free privacy', I take care of that. My contact name is 'Domain Admin', my org is a cool 'contact oriented' sounding .INFO, and the e-mail goes to [email protected], the phone # is Google/voice and the postal mail is a UPS mailbox. So I no longer need to pay anyone for privacy or (as in the case of answerable, pay more for the domain reg for 'free' privacy).

It's a fact that more people use Godaddy, and that alone means that it's probably wise to at least have an account there if you plan to move many domains.

Good point, but 99.9% of my regs will probably be with name.com for the forseeable future, with a godaddy account on standby, sparsely populated with domains :)

Yes, 24/7 support on GoDaddy is nice, and i've taken advantage of those weird hours before and seldom need it.

I'll tell you what answerable *doesnt't* have - apparently any kind of quick way to summarize domains and expiration info :( At least it isn't obvious.
On name.com, encirca, godaddy I can list my domains and see when they expire.

Answerable.com has a very weird interface for listing domain names and then when you list them, you have to click each one one at a time to see the expiration date and other data and then press return. Very awkward interface in general, at answerable in my opinion.

Godaddy + Coupon codes = Cheap domain names. I wish they had a more friendly interface and didn't try and sell you everything under the sun when registering a domain name. Until something comes along that offers domains at better price (or even the same price) with a better user interface, then I feel like i'm kinda stuck with Godaddy. Also, it does make it easier to sell domains here in the marketplace because most people have a Godaddy account so you can push the domain over to them easily.

exactly, even if you have a deep hatred for godaddy, you should still at have an account there if you're interested in dealing with end-users.

As I have said before GoDaddy.com is the AOL of domain registrars. They own over 30% of the domain market share between GD and WWD. There is no other registrar over 8%.

Even people who have no clue what a domain is have heard of GoDaddy. They are by far the easiest registrar to deal with end user wise.

I'm not sure why that makes GoDaddy a compelling place to buy, archive, access and modify my domains through. When I need to look-up and reg a domain name fast, GoDaddy is cumbersome and slow. I don't hate GoDaddy, I've been using them for years, and their customer support is decent, but Name.com is so much swifter and more pleasant, everything seems to work (as far as I can tell so far) and customer support responded within an hour to e-mail I sent earier today.

I don't see why an end-user would have any more difficulty with Name.com than I've had. I'm impressed with the size of GoDaddy.com, but still not sure what the compelling argument to put up with them is.

Now the periodic domain promotions is a good argument when the price to reg is one dollar less. But one thing that bugs me about GoDaddy and that I like about Name.com, is that Name.com gives me the ability to preset WHO IS data defaults *seperately* from my user account name. I've recently decided to create my own entity for WHO IS data to avoid privacy fees, and with Name.com every domain I register automatically uses that data. Saves me time and hassle. It's just faster and cleaner all the way around.

And as I mentioned before, answerable.com has 'free privacy' for higher reg fees (so not really free, right?), which is why I started using them prior to Name.com, but now I don't need privacy anymore, I handle it myself; and answerable.com has a really awkward interface in general in my opinion, and I find it a hassle to use.

Much cleaner and intuitive interface at name.com compared with godaddy. I initially had problems using their bulk management tool, sent a quick e-mail and was followed up with about 3 hrs later. Now it's really nice to change nameservers with 30 or 40 websites all at once.

The reg prices are slightly higher but the bulk management tool and no cost private whois make up for it.

Only 2 beefs is not a CIRA registrar and they should e-mail their discount codes to their users otherwise they can be difficult to find.

Name.com I know you're listening.

GoDaddy has a crappy layout, where you got no clue where your going.
Name.com has a nice and clean layout.
I hate GoDaddy, the only time I use them, is when I buy a domain off somebody :D
I like Name.com, no problems yet, fast, clean, good support, etc...

Think from an end-user's perspective: would you rather purchase a computer from Dell, or We Make Awesome Computer Incorporated, when in reality the latter company provides you slightly better bang for your buck? Same idea. (Ignore this paragraph if you aren't a flipper / don't deal with end-users.)

Advantages of GD:

* Offers the cheapest renewal rates of any registrar with the yhkw105a coupon code.
* Strong technical support.
* Executive account reps. assigned to those who own 500+ domains, and GoDaddy has some excellent reps.

The interface is horrifically slow, but it does contain many shortcuts that help temper some of the bulkiness.

Godaddy is $7.20 with coupon which is cheaper than name.com

$1 cheaper to buy. What about renewal? GoDaddy tends to sock it to you (at least with privacy) at renewal time. I don't register so many domains that $1 is a big deal. But if you have a couple of hundred domains it adds up. '

If the cost between GoDaddy and Name is comparable at renewal, then maybe some will want to reg with GoDad and renew/xfer to Name.

Godaddy control panel are full of "buy this, buy that" from Godaddy. Its everywhere. Makes the loading very slow and painful, along with confusion of locating, "where's that function" and sometimes the function is not working.

I sent and email support, days later receive an answer. I have 3 other registrars, hostway and domainmonster and they offer support ASAP within the day. Usually DM within 4-8 hrs very fast. Not sure about moniker, moniker requires me to "call in".

Godaddy...days....
I find it very annoying and confusing that Godaddy made their control pannel to be like an ad page everywhere with no stopping.

Name.com has, in general, had a very fast email response, sometimes only an hour or two. Phone support excellent. Last time I talked with a calm person.
Registering can't be easier. At goddady it is a lot of crap you have to go through. Godaddy is cheaper, but name.com always have free whois, if that is a concern.
Of course, a domain can be regged cheaper at godaddy for several years and then transferred to Name.com.

I have not seen any bad words about Name.com, but it seems as if godaddy isn't all good good in their claims. (nodaddy.com)
