I am referring here to an offer a potential buyer made on one of your domains. What was the highest offer your rejected and then regretted because the buyer never came back?

Well, a friend didn't officially reject a few days ago. He just ask them if they have a better offer and 2days later he initiated the escrow... Hope that's fine?

The only way I have ever been able to "reject" an offer was via a platform. And those were typically by Sedo and Afternic where the person comes along, and persistently sends the same minimum offer of $60 or $250 a few times in a row. There is just no negotiation there. And these I do not regret.

Otherwise, I have my price, and if the person making offers cannot come close to my asking price that I am happy with, I have just left it as that. No regrets on my part since my price is my price.

On NamePros you will read of people regretting their choices because they know to begin with that they overcharged, or chose to be unreasonable from the word go. Perhaps charging someone more because he is a director at a "big company" and he "can afford it". You know... hitting the "jackpot" as they say.

Be fair, and you won't have regrets.

This isn't something worth dwelling on. One major lesson in the domain industry and sales in general is being comfortable with saying "No". Make friends with "No" and if you are realistic with your pricing, overall you'll do just fine.

The funny thing is that I can remember almost every deal lost, but I can barely remember the successful deals.

I've had two deals that I lost and still regret to this day; they were for $30k and $50k. In both cases, the buyers decided to go with a cheaper domain instead. I might have been able to close them if I had agreed to their offers immediately rather than trying to get more.

Generally speaking, when someone offers $30k or more for a domain, they're dedicated to that domain name. It's rare for a buyer and me to not reach a deal when I receive an offer above $30k; it's only a matter of how high I can get them up.

The secret there is to quote prices on the phone so you can gauge their reaction from the "sticker shock" and prevent them from walking away by letting them know you're willing to negotiate. If they don't sound shocked by your price, then don't mention that you're willing to negotiate. Hold firm.

Try not to fall victim to "I don't have any regrets in life." Regret is one of the most valuable tools we have. It helps us avoid making the same mistake twice.

You win some, you lose some. The goal is to have more wins than losses.

Not my highest offer turned down, but just this week I had someone interested at 4k. It was an easily replaceable, brandable domain and I should have taken it. I was at 5,488 and I came down to 5k, but by that point he had already found a "better and cheaper domain".

Lesson: Impulse buys. Price your names with a BIN and redirect your landing pages to them. Buyer should be able to make the acquisition in the click of a button with the least amount of wait possible.

In my book, regret can also be a very destructive force that puts a knot in your gut and messes with your mind. Double-edge sword kind of thing. Trick is to not let it consume you I suppose.
