The most important aspect in domain tatsing is the choice of domains to be tasted.

I am trying to find out what is the best strategy to choose such names?

should e go for typos of big websites or should we just taste expired domains.

There are multiple schools of thoughts and it will be really useful if we could come up with a magic formula.

any suggestions?

Almost all expired domains have already been tasted by "big-time" tasters.

Quite right, I get hundreds of emails per month advising me that some of my long expired dot coms are being registered and then dropped about four days later.

The tasters should one day get together and publish the lists of names they have already established have no traffic - to help both themselves and the registry servers.

I have started tasting few months back and the kind of tasty domains a domainer would want are like 1 out of 10000 of targeted domains, the ratio goes up and down depending on our strategy of picking domains to be tasted.

a) Look for new websites that are gaining popularity on the web.
b) Look for new websites that look to you as if they will definitely grab traffic.
c) Look for local websites that you know have good traffic.
d) Look for websites that are heavily advertised in different media.
d) Watch TV, read mags and newspapers to find some new concept and taste quality combos of the concept.
e) If you have a lot of time on hand taste one word dictionary typos of commercial nature. Not all of them have vanished, yet.
f) Taste generic typos in such ccTLDs that can be refunded. This is a large area to explore. Also taste in ccTLDs that get good traffic.

BTW, you may not want to taste TM domains as they may have a bad taste later on :alien:

Further, divide your domain portfolio in three parts:

GVP: Generic Value Portfolio: contains domains that are only Generic in nature and considered by you to have good resale value in them. This is the most Non-Liquid category of domains to sell.

GRP: Generic Revenue Portfolio: contains domains that are Generic in nature and also produce good traffic and revenue.

LP: Liquid Portfolio: contains typo traffic and revenue domains.

Increase your LP and GRP and you are a successful domainer. This is JMO.in here.
