In these days there are many rumors around the effects due to the possibility of a rise of the price of the reg fees.
A 7% yearly, starting form 2007, in substance a 70% at the end of next 11 years....

I am concerned to understand if the value of the .com it is being dropped or whether the prices of reg fee for the .com
will rise 4-5 times and much earlyer than 11 years, or whether the reg fee of the new xx.com will be dramatically lowered.

Take a look.
1) many new .xx.com Tlds have been introduced and arguably many more will be added in the future (what confusion, how many clones!)
2)the reg fees for these .anynation.com are much higher than .com reg fee, average 4-5 times and more, unesplicably, for me at least.

Some consideration:
situation #1: At parity of name, one person register plipx.com for 8$ , another one register plipx.xx.com for 39$ , then they ask for an appraisal and they receive two identical responses > plipx= reg fee...
Wow, that's confusing, what a difference!

Ok, let say the appraisal say they worth differently.
the most obvious would be that plipx .com worth more,
but, since there exist just one.com and at the same time there are hundred different xx.com like eu.com uk.com.cn.com and so forth what is the factor that would eventually determine such difference?

Another point :say that the plipx.com for the appraisal worth 100$ and plipx.xx.com 60$ then would be at least odd that reg fee for .com are so much lower than for xx.com: sholud we have to aspect that the .com reg fees will rise over the actual xx.com to mantain their, no more so obvious, supremacy ?
Otherwise would make no sense anymore that a reg fee for xx.com is mantained so higher, it would be like to say that
something that worth less it cost more....

situation#3 = selling the plipx's:
if plipx.xx.com start first and set an asking price at whatever price then .com can try to drop the price , but in such case would be demonstrated that effectively .com worth less than xx.com , that would represent a contradiction .
The other possibility it is the owner of plipx .com ask an higher price ...in such case probably the buyer would go for xx.plipx.com since it cost less. xx.com would be a best choice for business purposes
But if viceversa it is plipx.com the first to set an asking price then it is easy for xx.com to make a lower counteroffer... it would be natural think so , since an xx.com worth less than its pure .com counterpart.
But this is again a contraddiction ...it can't be that the reg fee it is lower for something that worth more.
From the side of the xx.com it result that reg fees are much higher, for something that is always sold for lower than the .com ....why? Who would ever buy it (apart corporations and companies that use them for their own business)?
It may sound like xx.com was born to be an invitation for bad speculative actions against .com nah, it can't be. Maybe the reg fee for the xx.com will be lowered at level of the .com?

what reserves us the future?

me thinks the reg fee increase is a sca..*cough*..m to increase .com buys...

just my opinion,

also, i thought i saw an article about an anti trust suit against icann and verisign, if that's true, i don't think prices would be going up

I think the price of .COM may increase. But, the value would't be down.

Just as the price of everything increases every year, then I won't be surprised if the price of .com (or any other domain for that matter) would increase.
