Ok guys everyone is talking about Sex.com after Elliot broke the news yesterday - Sex.com For Sale in Foreclosure Auction | Elliot's Blog

So what do you think the domain will close for when it goes up for auction?

My Guess is $18,000,000 - Eighteen Million USD

I know people might say they couldnt make it work @ $14million but I think this will end up with lots of coverage and someone like Adult Friend Finder or other will purchase and pay top dollar.

Sex.com - Will become a paid for site, it wont remain parked or a free tube site...

These are my thoughts, What are yours?

Let me know what you think the Price will be at auction, who might buy it and what will happen with it?

Thanks,

Rob

It all depends on whether the buyer has a solid development plan for the domain. Sex on the internet is FREE. If the buyer wants to make it another porn site...he will have made an investment suicide!

Around $250000 sounds fair...but it could sell for much less!

As a matter of interest, how much DID it go for? Would other domains such as .info or .biz be worth anywhere near as much?

Sex.com set to sell for $13M USD

According to that article the owner (Escom) is set to lose $1 million or gain $1 million from the sale... if it's true they paid $12-14 millions back in 2006. Looks to me like sex.com was a bad investment for them... 4 years of ownership and probably ZERO appreciation, what a shame.

I believe at one point in Sex.com's lifetime income was reportedly around $500K per month.

Sure not the same recently but a fair amount methinks.

So I should not be too concerned about the sellers coming off out of pocket. :gl:

I'm no name pro or expert, but you need not be one to know the new buyer is getting a hell of a deal on Sex.com @ 13 million when that's about the price Escom purchased it for in 2006. Especially it's it can still generate that kind of money (500k monthly) - in about two years you'll break even, anymoney generated thereafter, yours for the taking.

These days, pornography is dirt-easy to get for free. I highly doubt any adult site gets $500,000 a month anymore but there could be obvious exceptions.

WOW, nice

I hope they've kept a few million back for developing a one stop shop rather than a boring PPC page.

There seems to be some really good old Adult domains dropping right now so I can only guess that the industry has so much free stuff its hard to get people to pay anything anymore.

I got a 1996 regd one in the drops the other day but now she's a vi....brand new reg, I hate when that happens :'(
