When you go to sedo.com, you can easily spot many domain listed for thousands dollars. But when you go to appraisal forum here, it's very rare to find domain names appraised more than mid xxx.

So my question is, to what kind of domain are you willing to spend $500 or more? What is the most important criteria so you are willing to buy domain in premium price?

i would pay more than $500 for any 3 LETTER.com domain name.
I would also buy short keyword domain names relating to my profession, to help out the profitibility of my website.

I think that most the domainers here are wholesalers rather than end users, so they would tend to want to buy low. Sedo targets the end user and that is where the money is if someone comes along that just happens to be looking for that name.

I'd buy for $500 any domain I expected to sell for $750 or more w/n the year.
-or-
One that I think I could make at least $800 with a little parking/content tweaking.
That's all ;)

For $500 or more, I'd buy:
- 3-letter .com's
- brandable one-word .com's (mostly nouns, verbs, or adjectives)
- keywords in other extensions that I can develop

The majority of names on appraisal in the forum are generally not worth $500 and most of the appraisers will never have spent that amount of money on a name.
However , even valuable names sometimes are way under praised and vice versa -I appreciate value is in the eye of the beholder/buyer

I find this a very friendly forum but in general there is a limited amount of knowledge - no disrespect to anyone especially those are experienced , very obvious by their comments and input.

What would I spend $500 on? A name I could sell for $2,000

As mentioned above :

3 Letter .Com's ~

Generic Highly Searched Dictionary Words mainly .Com's ~

There's a few Categories that I'd spend it on in other Extensions - But they would have to be Exceptional ~

I am also ready to, or in most cases, to spend $500.00 on 2-letter .com, .net, 3-letter .com (eg. saf.com), and on generic domain names such as run.com.

The next question is how do you spot that a name that could sell for $2,000 or more?

A few have stated some cases above. Most are true in that they are as a category worth more than the $500 we're talking about here.

Generally, I know when I see one of these names. It's a name that is useful for commercial or business use, is natual lanquage, has few good alternatives, and could easily make 2-3 times the acquision fee developed within the first year.

Same here. If I can make 50% profit then I would buy it.

I'd buy a domain that had OVT w/ extension of 400 and above for $500 but these days such a domain would go for $x,xxx.

If the name has good development potential, then i would pay way over $500.

I think there is a great deal of knowledge here WOT IMO

And those saying you would pay $500 for a three letter or two letter .com is just not making sense they are worth much more than that. $500 Should be a good name you will not get a great name for $500 IMO

I did not say there wasn't but this is very definitely the best forum for newbies to get to know the business.

One of my points :hehe:

No Wot I understand where you are coming from because you have some great names that I have seen appraised at prices where someone should drug test the appraiser for sure.

Assuming I had the money to spend, I pay $500 for a good traffic name... and not much else.

I'll spend $500 or more for any simple, natural keyword or keyword combination that applies to my market. The future lead generation value is what I look for.
