After days of running through words list, I have a list of several hundred .nets that caught my eye. What i'm struggling with is what makes a .net worth investing in? Thanks for any info you want to share.

What makes a good .NET?

1.) High quality commercially viable keyword.
2.) Terms that make great brands.
3.) Short domains (LL and LLL).

Here are some sales recently that fit into the above categories -

reports.net
baskets.net
gravity.net
closet.net
climax.net
breastenlargement.net
excavating.net
pcs.net
dcm.net

When you say "invest", do you mean you plan to build your own end-user website? Or do you plan to buy the .net in the hope that you can resell it back to someone else?

I think Geo .net's are worth a glance if it is a highly populated, well known affluent location.

Mobile.net just sold for $500.000 so there's definitely a market for short generic one-word .net's

Plenty of famous sites built on .net domains too such as Recruit.net, Themeforest.net etc

Personally i only own a couple of .net's and plan on dropping them.

If you owned the .net but not the .com, and in the future acquired the .com, would you then drop the .net or keep it?

I'd continue to develop the .net, and use the .com as a redirect.

I recently acquired the plural version .com of my developed singular .com, and use it as a redirect.

:D

Numerics are great in dot net. Many regional websites (especially in Asia) love number dot net domain names.

Reality check - have an English .Net related to fitness/weight loss which recently had a broker attempt to market. I had a couple of $50-$100 offers even though I see companies spending money on TV for this same sort of service quite often. Again, selling domains is not easy so I see no need to buy any new TLDs. .Net has existed for fifteen? years but selling them can be a challenge.

How many words? I honestly think anything beyond 2 words in a .net in most cases is basically dead in the water, saleability wise.

Dropping the .net would be quite foolish. Brand protection.

Forge - have seen it used as both one long word and two words but original registration date was May 1999...

I think you just have to find that "perfect" end-user buyer. (They have to find you.)

Overall, .net can be a risky investment. I keep just a few.
