Hi my name is Luis and i have quick question, ive been developing a webpage for a company that im going to be an affiliate for so anyways

my main goal is to get them(customers) to look at the product on the companies webpage through my site, but i would like to know what kind of protection do i need to make the customer feel secure/confident to continue on to their page with my affiliate code in the webpage url box?

heres what im asking

for example: I do not want the customer to look at my page and if they are interested in the product that they take the url of the company im an affiliate of and eventually i lose potential commision

so what im really trying to say is : that if i were to add some kind of protection i can increase the chance of getting a commission.

If by protection, you mean security, I'd suggest getting an SSL certificate. You'd be surprised how much more comfortable clients will be when they see the "s" after "http" and the little lock icon the the corner indicating it's a secure session.

If you want them to feel safe because they may be completing actual monetary transactions through your affiliate link, I suggest you don't do that. If they're conducting some sort of payment, it should be straight to the clients site since the clients privacy policy most likely has statements where third parties won't have access to their information etc and if all the info is being... "proxied" (for a lack of a better term) through your site just so you can pull a commission, I can see lawsuits in your future if anyone ever finds out (either from the clients, the affiliate businesses, or both).

thatz exactly what i was asking thank you very much,

so basically if all im doing is

1.getting the customer to my site www.abc.something

and then the customer likes products on www.abc.something

so then customer goes to the site where the products are sold and they eventually complete a transaction.

then i dont need to do anything correct, except develop my site and work on attracting visitors.

yeah, if your site takes them DIRECTLY to the company's website where the customer can complete their transaction, you won't need to do anything. however, if you're collecting any personal info, i suggest getting an SSL certificate still.

i know what you're saying here. you don't want prospects to go direct to the site's main url and you lose commission.

you need to cloak your affiliate links then with either ucash.in or usercash.com so you're safe, you give them the ucash or usercash url so you get paid as well and then when they click your affiliate company will leave a "cookie" in their computer and will credit you as the referrer then you get commission.

Cheapest SSL certificate would probably be at www.namecheap.com.

As far as I know, SSL certificates are relatively similar and for your purposes the cheap ones should be fine.

also

i have a big assumption in my head that if most people when they shop or find out about a product on a certain website and they think its just website out of nowhere that they will just take the referring page and close it and go directly to the other one directly where the product is being offered and soooo

this is where im scared that i might lose potential customers

is there anything i can do to offer them a sense of security

note: i do not want to and are not intending on collecting any information from them

ahhhhhhh this is what i was looking for

because i remember last time that i became an affiliate of this one company

id did the following

i went to a different computer with a different ip and everything and acted like the guy that got referred over, but the affiliate code never followed in the affiliate link and also there was no place to put the refferz name

that is why i wanted to know on how to go around this

thank you all u guys have been a big help

make sure your referral script actually works (if thats what happened last time).

and as for your fear of people just closing your site, if you link to the other company's website (using target="_blank", so it opens in a new window), why would they go back to your page, close that, go back to the other page, and retype in the URL without your referral? it's much, much easier for them to just use the page that you so conveniently opened for them. this is your whole service so they shouldn't be closing your window.

If you want people to trust YOUR site:

Have an "about us" page with some actual information about you/your company and why you built the site.
Have a privacy policy
Have a working contact form, preferably including a street address.

You can also look into trust badges (BBB, Verisign, Trust Guard, Comodo etc.), but those aren't cheap.

Don't want them directly typing in the merchant url? Cloak the affiliate link so it isn't visible.

You're going to lose some sales no matter what you do - fact of affiliate life.

then this issue will have to depend what affiliate program/company you're talking about, they have solution for your concerns, just contact their customer support.
