What is with Dotster?!

Recently I've checked some names at Dotster/mydomain and it says they are available, specially .co.uk extensions.

I try to register and it doesn't let me, so I check the whois and it's been regged for years!
It's not like I've just been pipped to the post but months later. Sometimes the names are in a renewal period for the owners but it still says "available".

Customer service seem less than helpful, and gave me wrong info.

Most domains go through a 30-45 day renewal period and they may show up as reserved in that time frame.

If you use whois.sc to lookup availability, it will always say it is available if there are other extensions available.

Dotster has big problem with checking the availability of cctlds. I've E-mailed them long time ago about that, it's still not fixed.

Yes I've noticed this as well. All co.uk domains seem to be available...
