Whenever, i make a change to the contact info for a domain, they will lock my domain for 60 Days ??? WTF ?

For security purposes I authorize the rejection of all transfer requests for all selected domain names for a period of 60 days from the date of this Registrant Name Change. I have read the Domain Name Change Registrant Agreement and agree to its terms for all selected domain names. ??

It happened with me twice, i had to make a small change in the contact email for the domain and wanted to transfer it to Enom, but i saw that GD already had locked my domain and didn't allow transfer.

No other company has such policies of cheating their customers and making them stay with them in name of SECURITY

it is pretty standard that if you edit/change the contact info you will be locked in for 60 days..it is not cheating merely terms and conditions.

I've only seen this at godaddy myself :td:

I have seen it at other registrars than Go Daddy. I used to look after a portfolio of many many domains for a large company. We used to experience the same problem. But it is something you sign up for when using Go Daddy. You arenยดt able to transfer to another registrar for 60 days, but you are able to push to another Go Daddy account. Not sure if that helps you or not.

Indeed. It so happens some people typically consider something "cheating" if a
provider does things not expected, even though it's all laid out in the contract.

Unfortunately many people don't bother to read them. While it's not required,
ignorance hasn't been known to excuse anyone either.

This just happened to me (twice this week) and it's really, really annoying, especially when you have sold a domain and you need to tranfer it out.

I use many, many registrars, and Godaddy seems the only one doing this.

And more importantly, I'm sure it's in the T&C. but there are no warning and no messages AT ALL when you accept a push or change your contact details. It's a subtle way to keep your names with them in my opinion, because there are no security threats here and no need to do that, the lock/unlock system is good enough.

At Godaddy, you can change the Admin email contact without locking the domain for 60 days. Do not change the Registrant contact, if you do that, you will lock the domain. Its simply understanding the rules and working with them. Knowing this should help you in the future.

Justin beat me to it. It's only if you change ANYTHING in the Registrant Info section that the domain gets locked. You can change all other info without the domain being locked.

godday is the worst for locking. enom is better.

this happens with godaddy only, maybe one or two other companies will be following their scheme to hold the clients for longer time. But its simply annoying.
I guess these terms and conditions came into action recently, i had some domains which were nearly 4 years old and i don't think there were such conditions during those times. Or maybe i just missed

Glad you posted that info. I've been trying to change all contact info, when all I really needed was that Admin email changed.

The reason I couldn't change all the account info was because I couldn't agree to the non transfer of names for 60 days right now. Waiting to see if any of those names get in Monikers Octobers auction.

GoDaddy thrives on ignorance ... many domainers who have been around awhile avoid them whenever they can.

Enom is the best Registrar for me. I like it much though the price is little higher.

What a pity that Enom's Pre-release Auction was gone... I bought 200+ pretty domains here at reasonable low price in past months...

I have also found this very frustrating when you find out later you can't transfer out for another 2 months. Most registers don't force this besides Godaddy.

Godaddy is the only registrar I've seen this with.

Latest Issue: I wanted to change my 121 domains from Godaddy to a Reseller of Directi (Resellerclub) and this stupid company has locked my domains and doesn't permit a transfer.

And then i called their customer support. When i asked them this question, they said, all registrars do it. I asked, if he could name one and he said, wait a moment sir, and he cuts the call.

I call again, talking to someone else, the guy tells me in a very funny way,

DEAR SIR,
THIS CAN'T BE DONE. PLEASE WAIT, I WILL SEE WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU IN THIS CASE. PLEASE STAY ON THE LINE WHILE I CHECK.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I was waiting for 1 minute, and i found that this call was also cut by the support guy.

********

I was really annoyed and sent them an email, they have replied in the same way.

All registrars do put a lock of 60 days. This is really amazing that Godaddy still has very good domains business. They are trying to lock domains of their clients to keep them with their company.

This really sucks!!
