For HTML work: plain old text editor
For server side scripting: I use PHP or JSP.
For images: the Gimp or Photoshop.

I've heard a lot of good things about GIMP. I've been using a really old version of corel draw/ photo paint since I've always been too cheap to buy anything else.

As far as web dev goes, if you aren't heavy on it, I'd just buy a template or get a free one and learn a little simple html to modify it to suit your needs.

It's designed to work similarly to Photoshop. Google is your friend on this one...you'll find more tutorials that way than any other way I knwo of.

Yes, I prefer Dreamweaver myself when I just need to get a concept going with a few tables, etc. For things like logos or buttons, I prefer Photoshop.

Well, here's what I use:

Page Design: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX2004
Scripting: Crimson Editor
Graphic Design: Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Illustrator CS, Macromedia Fireworks MX2004, Macromedia Flash MX2004 Pro, Xara X1 & CorelDraw 12.

There is quite a diverse set of programs there. Obviously, if you are just starting out, you probably won't need all of those, just a few (Dreamweaver & Photoshop would serve you well).

Hi,

for the graphics I suggest using adobe since it also comprises file
which would be good if your making heavy graphics it could comprises the file size
and still have amazing results. and I think combining multiple languages
would give excellent results. ex( combinin
XML,PHP,HTML,DHTML,JAVASCRIPT, and VBSCRIPT);
