I have some domains regged at a certain resellerclub reseller. If said reseller goes under what happens to my domains?

I'm not sure, but it's a very scary thought.

I'd freak out ;)

Lets say you send an unmanned vessel to Mars. The vessel contains scientific instruments. The vessel blows up. What happens to the instruments?

Get the picture? ;)

If you Reseller doesn't under it is no big deal. You can email ResellerClub and they will get you your domains for you.

How will they give me my domains? Will they just transfer me to another reseller?

I think in theory you can get it back, but just like a bank goes under, you can get your money back but it will take efforts

All you have to do is contact ResellerClub and they will first try and contact the current reseller. Make sure you own the domains and than if you pass it they will transfer all your names for free to another ResellerClub reseller of your choice.. You can easily setup a Sub-Reseller of somebody like WSDReg just incase and have them transfer them all to WSDReg..

For example.

This made me laugh

I would imagine if your registrar goes under that your domains are pushed to another registrar. However I am not quite sure.

I know with godaddy,
Anytime you register a domain with a godaddy reseller and that reseller goes under they just move you to a new reseller. pretty simple.

That isn't completely true. They can, but it doesn't necessarily mean they will.

CharlieA, a reseller will register the domain name with their registrar partner. If
the reseller goes belly up, the partner registrar will still retain the domain name
until it expires or whatever else happens midway.

Legal agreements between the registrar and the reseller force the former to
refer all end-users to the latter first for resolution. The registrar might step in
if the end-user convinces them that they've exhausted all means with their
reseller but bore no fruit.

Most if not all registrars have processes to investigate claims first before they
finally decide what to do with the domain name. If you successfully meet their
requirements (which at least takes 24-48 hours), then they might transfer the
domain name to a direct account with them or to one of their other resellers.

But since this is resellerclub being talked about, you'll have to ask them what
their position is. I'm just giving only a "general" picture how registrars handle
this kind of issue.

Edit: just saw iNod give a better answer. But note the condition iNod gave re:
the domain name being registered under your name, that's the barometer.

Part of the ICANN application process to become a registrar involves documenting exactly this scenario - who will pick up your names in the event you go out of business. I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty, but this should be covered. I'm sure any registrar would be quite happy to pick up a few thousand/million domains overnight and any registar closing their doors without even bothering to make this arrangement would be opening themselves up to huge liability.

As for resellers, in the eyes of ICANN the registrar is responsible for your names, not the reseller.

Obviously the Martians will take the devices and use them to make home movies and as kid's toys. That is what they have done with all those craft that have been lost in the last few decades.

Don't you listen to Art Bell?

Those Martians...so advanced that our chemicals are their shelter...:hehe:

Anyways, I say send some e-mails to people at ResellerClub and see where that gats you. Worst case scenario? You re-register the name.

Great replies, very informative thanks. The process to claim your domains seems a bit long. I like this though...
