What Happened to Halloween?

It seems like Halloween is losing its appeal now days. I can remember growing up and getting excited about going trick-or-treating. I'm too old to do that now, of course, but it's interesting that I hardly ever see kids trick-or-treating. Not that I want them banging at my door, but it's just an observation. I used to hear about a lot of Halloween parties too, but there don't seem to be to be a lot of those anymore either.

Does anyone here dress up for fun or parties?

Nope. I do not do anything for halloween.

There are mainly little kids going trick or treating these days..

It's almost too risky to go trick or treating in some parts.

In our area, trick-or-treating is rare since mostly the people here don't really care.

I think perhaps it's a sign of the times,When i was a kid,er..about 35 years ago-lol,It was safe for us to go out and go door to door trick or treating,It's just simply not safe anymore,Thus i think the interest is just gone in it now.

Whenever I do halloween I start planning my costume in advanced because I can't do the cheezy party makeup. I like to look exactly like the killers in the movies. Last year I did Freddy Krueger. 6 hour makeup and the shirt and pants were so hard to find. The real glove was easy to find. I was going to do Jason this year, but I don't have the money. I still like halloween just to scare little kids and show off my costume.

Even the stores have cut back on the Halloween stuff this year. We love to decorate for it and we went out just tonight to get more stuff and there was more Christmas than Halloween out.

As for the trick or treating... it has slowed way down. So sad kids these days are missing so much of the fun things because the world has become a scarier place. 8-X

The sad thing is: I don't think the world is significantly different now than when we were kids. The same dangers existed then as now, but the media has heightened the awareness and I think parents are more "protective" of their kids these days.

I've gone trick-or-treating in the past- always with a group of friends and a parent walking or driving with us. This year I'm going to a unhalloween party with a friend.

On halloween, we keep two bull mastiffs on the front garden so we never get any trick or treaters hahaha it works aswell
