At the moment, I don't have much going on, and with the holiday break coming up, I'll have even less.

What kind of site would you want? (coding wise, I don't plan on designing it)
Do you have any new ideas/scripts that you can think of that don't already exist?

Some kind of database class (like spreadsheet) for php include. Admin and users can add or edit sortable records. Import and export data files. Admin can add or delete column also. Useful for any kind of listings.
docs.google.com?

If you want to something really useful which will move the web developement world forward; come up with some way (javascript) to get a read of the "responseText" property of the XMLHttpRequest object before the connection is closed by the server.

If you get this to work, you will open the way for HTTP service streaming on all browsers. At this moment, all browser can read the responseText property while the connection is left open by the server except for IE which stops this technology from becoming mainstream. Do this and you'll be famous!

Remember, Google is your friend.

I like the Light CMS idea. It should be: Very light, have good functionality, and have a simple templating class, even if it is just header/footer editting and colour changes.

You can also be the first to develop a proxy that supports IDNs. That would kind of be cool

I know what you're talking about.. It would just be a little impossible for me to make it, though. :(

If you found something that shows how to convert the characters into the xn--blahblah stuff, I could do it. :)

How about a PHP class which will check the availability of a domain and return true if it is available and false if unavailable?

you all want a simple cms?
what's wrong with wordpress... simple and kicks butt!

How about a "ratings" script where you can give a product, movie, picture, post or anything else the admin chooses a "rating" out of 5 or 10 stars and visitors can contribute their vote? It's been done, but no real good free versions.

I was just trying to do this yesterday and was having a hard time with it. I was trying to make it run through major official registrars to get the best info, but doing a whois would probably work and be easy.

YouTube clone: http://www.scriptube.com/ (I don't know if it's any good.. I just Googled for one but there are many.)

There are many CMS more simple than WordPress. We are talking way more simple than those - just the basics, no bloated features.

Dan,
Glad to see this idea has support. When are you thinking of starting or releasing a beta version?
As mentioned in my PM, I think there are many small business owners (SME market is huge), that would love a minimalist CMS for updating a just few pages.

Best regards,

- Vincent

Then we will forget about that one, but how about this:

An abstraction layer written in PHP which allows the user to query a database (PostrgreSQL or MySQL) in Javascript and returns a result identifier similar to PHP mysql libraries. Results sets could be returned as JSON. So it's basicly the functionality of the php mysql library implemented in javascript.

Alrighty, I'm trying to do it.. It's going to be basically PHProxy but that it works with IDNs. It would be too much work to create a whole new proxy script.

You definitely have some crazy JavaScript/AJAX/PHP super-combo ideas, but I'm looking for more or less just PHP/MySQL scripts. [Examples: arcade, CMS, blog, new ideas that don't require amazing new breakthroughs and the creation of another programming language, etc.]

I see, but when your thinking along those lines (arcade, CMS, directories), IMO everythings worth doing has been done over and over again. Innovation requires out-of-the-box thinking. No offense, all the conventional stuff is nice and all but there are more exciting things going on the web then arcade websites and CMS's. Instead coming up with solutions for the same problems over and over, it poses more of a challenge to come up with solutions to problems which haven't been fixed.

Anyway, I like your initiative and I will try to come up with something in the line of MySQL/PHP.

You could become famous for WordPress MU users if you could develop the features asked in this post:

I don't mean that it has to be something that is just a basic script that you see millions of like arcades, but it just needs to be some sort of script that is mostly PHP. I don't like JS that much if at all. What you asked for is some way to integrate JS and PHP and working with the server to get a variable before it gives it to you.
