What did YOU do before domaining?

Many online gurus, and their loyal following, seem to be oblivious about the core process of domaining.

You would think that people that are most interested in being online would be experts at this by now.

Conversely, I see a lot of domainers that are successful yet have almost no technical skills one would need to develop websites.

Which brings me to my question... what did you do before you got into domaining, and how were you introduced to the domain investment world.

Hmmm....before domaining I was doing many things. I worked several years in "Top hill" discoteque as a manager of bars. Top hill got an award as best discoteque in a world in 2012 while I worked there
After that I opened my own restaurant, run it for about a year...than played poker....Last 9 months I am without job so I found out domaining by accident , I like it and now I am here...Hope I will make some sales and remain in business...

Before domaining I was an Internet marketer that used linking tactics to fool Google ... until Google found out lol. I don't mind sharing that because I never did anything illegal, Google just penalizes the sites with their updates.

I just got into this domaining and I'm addicted to it! I feel that a lot of my previous knowledge with IM has been a lot help for me, but this forum NP has really opened my eyes. Thanks everyone!

Kitchen designer,sales,to truck driver (needed to get away from it all) After a work place injury that ruined my right arm.....of course I'm right handed, returned to school for retraining to find out what I already knew that most employers are not interested in an injured and retrained worker. From 2000 - 2004 I was a physical education teacher and my hobby back then was making (totally legal) money by various things on the internet. I had a online silver jewelry shop and a number of other small web projects.

I moved Asia in 2004 and for the first ten years my main income was commission via hotel, villa and tour bookings. We have a number of Asia related travel websites that did really well from 2004-2010. After that, the income from these has declined. There are huge players to compete with, such as Bookings, Agoda and Hotels.com

The last six months 90% of my focus has been on the domains. I think this will be my last job as I love it and it is free but at the same time very challenging.

Bought broken computers and electronics from Best Buy Liquidation, Walmart Liquidation, etc.. Fixed them and sold them on Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist.

I first found out about domain names when I was like 15 and playing around with making websites but didn't have the money to register any. A little after my High School years I got back online in 2008 and registered my first domain for a business me and my cousin started.

I got into domain investing when I came across an article, "10 Teens Who Made Millions With Their Ideas" and it had a story some guy(@matt_bodis ) that made more than a million dollars buying and selling domain names after starting with $200 or so.

Getting my roots in web development. Found DNF via google. Can't remember what search terms I used but I remember thinking, 'Wow, there is a term for what I like to do with all these domain names".

1988-1999 Graphic Designer on first Apple Macs - Fine Art Trade. Bought first domains in '99 was deterred by the .com bubble 2000 Travelled. Set up ecommerce business till 2011. Studied at uni. Was a Cancer Care Nurse PT. Been providing names since 2011.

I am a Class 1 officer in government. The salary is less than $1000 per month, which is starting salary for newly recruited. This amount is too low for me to allow a life style I want. So, I started looking to supplement my income. I stumbled across gig sites like Fiverr and Gigbucks. I registered and soon became a top rated seller on Gigbucks though I hardly get one order a day. I started domaining just couple of months back. I have not made a big sales yet, the returns have been good. I plan to settle with domaining along side my regular job.

Before domaining I spent 3 years at college studying electrical engineering. Kind of wish I done web design/marketing or something so I would have more skills for this domaining malarkey. Although this time last year I didn't even know what SEO was or a TLD.

Look through and get domains during my free time, after office hours of course.

My son got me into this, to learn more about the facts about the domain property business, and how lucrative it is in terms of investing. He usually sits with me about an hour a day, to teach me about the tech world and how it's growing. I'm an old man, might be useful for me after retirement!

To answer the main question, I'm in foreign services, currently posted in Hong Kong as cousel general of Pakistan, before this i was working in jakarta as commercial counsellor cd/a.
