Many online gurus, and their loyal following, seem to be oblivious about the core process of domaining.

You would think that people that are most interested in being online would be experts at this by now.

Conversely, I see a lot of domainers that are successful yet have almost no technical skills one would need to develop websites.

Which brings me to my question... what did you do before you got into domaining, and how were you introduced to the domain investment world.

From all the questions concerning ourselves (and our domains) in the forum, I find this one quite interesting :)

I was actually a sound engineer on the TV
Got introduced via a tablet App as soon as I left the whole TV business for good (fed up with all the crap there) ... so, I had nothing to lose really

Whoops forgot my story...

I've been online since 2004. I quit my day job in Management Information Systems in 2004, started a online cell phone recycling site before carriers were buying back phones, and made a few successful niche apps on Facebook.

Then I decided to do a complete 180 and did storage unit buying for a few years. I wanted to be Dave Hester :xf.rolleyes:. It was fun, but it was not profitable at all. I got back into the online industry where I maintain an active consultancy and project management position for mid-level agencies.

I started domaining when I was working on a project and I made an inquiry on a name, and the guy quoted me $40k. So I started doing some research, and jumped right in. I certainly wish I had been at it since 2004; my two regrets are not domaining early and missing BitCoin.

Fun fact: a former friend has 1000 BTC on their computer from when I signed up for BitCoin and they were giving away BTC, and they likely have no idea or have reformatted their computer by now.

I had 250 BTC before it skyrocketed. Don't ask where they went though... ;)

It's a real kick to the soul isn't it, nothing like missing out on some easy money.

I hope you find it one day.

Thanks, friend. :)

Well, I am just a few months old in domaining and I have no plans to make this full time. I run a medical transcription firm (12 years in this field now) and I work for US doctors. So I need to be online and monitor the work of my employees. I just have to monitor and not do the real work but have to be online - got my attention to domaining. I studied engineering while in college and have a flair of computer related stuffs. All technical stuffs in my small office I do myself. I am not a pro in that though. If I was not into the medical transcription business I would have been a computer engineer or something.

So, domaining was interesting and being in namepros helped me to get some knowledge. Domaining took me to a little bit of developing (learning online) and that is going on one side as well. So, I like to learn new stuffs, increase knowledge and domaining is interesting.

College professor and writer.

I actually started domaining when I was still teaching, and I even talked a bit about domaining in the classroom. (Blank stares, LOL)

I taught writing and literature, so if I'm a bit pedantic, that's why.

But don't worry; unless you pay me, I won't be correcting anyone's grammar.

I have published three books: a memoir, a play, and a collection of short stories.

In 2009 - 2010, I went on a Fulbright (Google it, if you don't know), and then I retired.

I'm kind of stuck right now, but things will move again -- they always do.

I am currently working on a YA novel called Peep Central .

I was a lazy college student until I realized that miracles won't happen in my life if I don't work my ass off. Thankfully, I will graduate next month and I'm so excited because that means I will be able to spend more time domaining. I also work as a virtual assistant by the way. :)

I played 8 hours of Battlefield 3 everyday before starting to build websites, and got successful doing it. :)

I've never done good things.

I've never done bad things.

I never did anything out of the blue.
