Um, what?

How did you come about owning this?

WOW. Very valuable domain Developing would probably be the way to go if you have some extra time. You would still get some decent money if you sold it strait out though.

Definitely develop it. So out with it!! Give us some stats...daily uniques, how you obtained it, and all that good stuff!

Under-utilized by pointing it towards infooil - the folks going to "what.com" aren't looking for oil jobs.

Instead, park it for a while and see what kind of daily CPM you can average, and you'll get a much better idea of its value based on traffic.

Or,

Go in partners with someone to develop it into a search engine with a unique angle. What that angle is would have to be hammered out, of course ;)

Dev if you want....but you have some major things going for you.....

4 Letter brandable, pronouncable, dictionary, dot com.

Not to mention it is a word used daily by nearly every english speaker.

As is, no dev, I would say high $xx,xxx at a minimum.

If you don't believe, I will give you regfee for it right now and prove it.

Well you have yourself a nice piece of .com investment property that most of us would...uh love to have (sigh)

Wow!

OK sell if you want to cash in now, or in the meantime park it and let the offers spill fourth. If you are a developer by all means it has potential, but if that is not your direction cash out now and reinvest the nice profits :tri: :lala: %%-

We have always pegged the value around $1MM and have had a few interested parties over the years ... but no final takers. We acquired the domain in '94 through some great forethought. Now just to monetize what has been under/mis utilized for over 10 years. Any thoughts as to why the multi million $ domainers show no interest in what.com?

What.com dont have alexa rank yet , and that mean even you have organic traffic but too little to just start any develop website without targeted content for your visitors .. i think you get like 15-30 visitors max per day

So i have a good idea and i it might help you with some notes to start making money from developed website..

------
Only index page with sentence in the middle of it says :

What you looking for ? ....

instead of "...." you will replace it with php form to send you what people submit..
------

After i checked your traffic and i noticed that your domain may be not recieve enough traffic to just start untargeted marketing.. i thought that my idea could help ..

You still have another choise to start with web archive or portal for non-specific fields like "games , loans , stocks , download , etc ..." as already your domain visitor could be looking for anything depend on "what"

Good Luck

If you want to sell it, a Sedo auction should get you at least market value for the domain. Should be worth more than $50,000. Maybe try with a reserve > $100,000.

At the very least, you could make some money with traffic from the domain.

Domains like this have high growth potential. I would use a parking service and keep the name. It's very hard to replace with something equivalent value.

The million dollar sales of domains are usually always bought by people with the intension of using the domain for a developed site. The value in the domains is usually seen because of the multi-million dollar marketing campaigns that accompany the domain sale. Domainers don't spend millions promoting their domains and are only buying the domains for the wholesale value of names.

In the right hands, this domain is worth $1mill+ but not to most domainers.

No way... OVT of 151 w/ ext, pagerank 6 with and without the www, plus it's one of the big five - who, what, where, when, why.... this domain must receive (at least) hundreds of unique visitors per day. BTW, InfoOil.com has a Alexa traffic rank of 227,502. I'd wager What.com is somewhat responsible for that.

I wouldn't value this name at a million+ for a speculator/domainer. While it's an incredibly valuable domain (possibly as high as $250,000+), it's too generic for a speculator/domainer to pay that much just to park it and wait. I think an end-user would pay as high as $500,000+ for the name, but you'll have to market it and wait, perhaps years, before the right company comes along with enough interest to lay down that much money IMO.

at least $xxx,xxx

and maybe $x,xxx,xxx
if you dont have enough $ to develope I think - sell
A Moniker live auction can be a good place to sell a domain like this one.
also, I'm sure Sedo will list it in there Top Domains listing.

Look at about.com for inspiration on a development angle imo. I think what.com is an easy win with a well planned out and well funded development. With a year or two and maybe xx,xxx in development / marketing and you could fetch high xxx, xxx.

Good luck.
