I recently acquired txtmsg.org and txtmsg.ws

Just acquired the pair and I might need to sell in order to fund some other projects, otherwise I would hang onto them for a bit. Any advice about value or a suggested BIN is welcome!

Thanks!

That sounds low.

To be fair, text messaging is entirely based on shortened versions of words... and a Google search for "txt msg" brings up something like 2 million responses.

I think txtmsg.org is great and has definite development potential. I would drop the .ws version though.

Develop the .org into a site where you can send text messages via your web browser to a cell phone and you're golden. It's not very hard to do, either.

Congrats!

Appreciate the input and opinions.

I had an immediate offer of $100 on the .ws version, but I was actually thinking of developing that one and selling the .org version.

I suppose I could develop both of them...

txtmsg.ws - text message website

txtmsg.org - something to do with the use of text messaging in the nonprofit or charitable arena

In truth I'd probably only sell the .org version for a minimum of a low $xxx offer.

And here I would have let that one drop. Just goes to show you that no matter what is said here, the buyer determines the *real* value of anything. :)

If anyone is interested in picking up either of these names or several others, I've make a for sale post in the marketplace area and will accept offers. Although I may decide to hang onto them depending on what the offers are, but I figure it never hurts to try.

I would have sold the .ws domain, it is pretty much reg fee imho. The .org however has a bit more value and in years to come it will raise dramatically. It is also great to develop. A lot of people don't appreciate the value of those domains.

Besides forgetting every vowel in the English alphabet, your post is pointless. Nearly every domain has at least some value. "cmpltly wthlss srry" is the poorest excuse for an answer that I've seen from any NamePros user ever.

Interesting takes. The person who offered me $100 for the .ws is someone I've known a while and I was a bit surprised that he went for the ws over the org.

I think I'll keep both for now and maybe try to develop them. Apparenly "ws" is sometimes used as abbreviated slang for website. So, since text messaging is essentially all about abbreviations... his thought was txtmsg.ws = "test message website"

Not sure how sound that reasoning is... but I think there's potential to setup a web-based text messaging script and see if I can brand the site a bit to make it work valuable on my own.

Again though, thanks everyone for the opinions!

Is possibly the most idiotic thing I've ever read in a post on a domain forum in 8 years of domaining. I can only assume your naivety is due to the fact that you are new to the biz. If you had some knowledge of the industry and buying/selling experience, you would certainly be familiar with the stark truth that yes, some domains are indeed worthless. I am terribly sorry for being the one to have to break it to you. If your statement were true, there wouldn't be many expired names would there? Have you seen how many domains expired last week?

Domaining is a hard business and as human beings we are quite sensitive. We don't like to be told our domains are worthless.

In the case of these, I will gladly hold my hand up and apologise if the names sell. I am merely offering an honest perspective based on experience. Some people are fine with that, some people take offense. Apologies to the initial poster if he was offended by my appraisal. Perhaps it was a little pithy in hindsight.

Unfortunately exponent, you missed the humor of my post, which, given that text messaging is the issue here, was rather witty :)

See? Not only am I honest, I am funny too. Now, tell me that they are bad qualities to have.

Oh, and if ""cmpltly wthlss srry is the poorest excuse for an answer that I've seen from any NamePros user ever" is correct, I strongly advise you to get out more. You must have had a very sheltered life - or perhaps you've just been making too many apple pies.

If you had an offer for $100, I'd take it & run. The .ws is a crap extention
