I have been hearing 'Chips' quite a lot when referring to some domains.

What does it mean? Kindly help explain and also if there are other kinds one needs to know as well.

Thanks!

"Chips" are short domains (usually 3-4 characters) that consist of letters and do not contain vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and at the same time do not contain V. This choice of letters is valuable for Chinese buyers and therefore chips are sold at premium.

Example of chips: BGMY.com. Liquid price: over $1000
Example of non-chips: BVML.com. Liquid price: around $200

Sometimes also "Western" chips are considered, where letters are ranked according to their frequency of use in European languages. Best letters in this system are: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T. Example of a "Western" chip: BMCE.com with liquid price around $400.

Sometimes, when talking about numerical domains, "chips" are considered names without 4 and 0. Number 8 is extra welcome and boosts doman price. Chinese buyers are again the reason for this.
