They keep sending me these emails, here's todays. Does anyone else think this is weird?

By the way, this text is written on a postcard.

Dear Rob,

The forces of nature seem to be conspiring against me today. Being a sunny morning, I thought I'd take some pictures of my bicycle in the garden as I'm listing it on eBay.co.uk. As my finger poised over the shutter, a sudden barrage of hailstones completely ruined the shot!

So I decided to take my nephew to the park to fly his new kite, but it got tangled up in a tree after a gale-force gust of wind almost carried him away with it. I would have had trouble explaining that one to his mother! Will be in touch soon.

Fondest regards
Edward

PS - If you know anyone who wants a bicycle, tell them to look out for my listing!
Oddly, the words I underlined are linked to Ebay. The word "tangled" leads to hairbrushes, totally unrelated to the postcard's content.

More than 50% of the screen is taken up by the postcard and they only list 4 actual products/ranges that I "might like" (with pictures).

I don't need weird emails like that. Unsubscribed :)

I think they are taking a leaf out of Derren Brown's book,
and hypnotising us into bidding for things that we don't actually
want.

But then again...I'm paranoid ;)

I've been getting emails from "ebay" or so they say, but they change the URL around and when you login they snatch your username and password. :(

If it is really ebay then it sounds like...advertising!

hairbrushes relate to tangled as hair gets tangled. It sounds like its in the style of someone writing a postcard and theyve used words that realte to things for sale, so they get more traffic

People can send emails to you stating they are from ebay when they are not, I think that they are probably just trying to advertise different auctions to gain a little more interest

mmm... It's called Phishing usually isn't it? Where they put up fake websites and steal your login information? Just delete these e-mails. They are SPAM

I was getting these emails too, I never thought anything of it. I just assumed ebay had adopted a new marketing technique, I actually thought it was quite clever...thanks for the heads up guys.

 I have not recieved them yet but I seem to get all the other emails I would bewear as sometime the link looks like ebay.com or .co.uk but it actually is ebay.com.lex.ur or something and some people don't look beyond the .com and think it legit it is not it is a sub domain of the other part, but quiet a good trick to play!
