So I've been working really hard at changing my website to a 950px width thinking it will work for people with 1024x768 displays. However, now looking back it looks about 50pixels too big. Where did I go wrong? What does everyone else use?

Thanks,
QBert

I usually use 900px by 900px.

Im not 100%, but do you need to consider the width of the browser?

960px is usually what designers go off of.

i usually aim for anything less than 1000 also to appease the 1024 crowd. if you've changed your width to 950px then it should work out fine for 1024 resolutions...

Tested at work, was just my browser not resizing correctly when I do a "Preview in 1024x768". Sorry guys :$
However, this is a topic I have been interested for some time. Thanks Everyone! Particularly MK3Design for the inside info! :)

I used to have that problem too. So check into:

1, Body padding
2, The body padding

Padding will "push" the width, if you understand :P
