Looking for a few opinions from designers and developers out there...

Currently in need of a new machine for home use - and also want to start to develop some of my names.

Currently running a Dell Dimension PC - but the new iMacs have really got my toe tapping.

I was told from our IT guys that i could run dual boot on the new Macs, so i'd have access to the Microsoft XP OS + Microsoft Office - which i'll need.

I would be taking the next several months to learn Dreamweaver and have a partner who is a graphic designer who would be creating all of our logos/art, etc.

I'm not overly impressed with the new Dell machines.

Here are my questions:

1. PC or Mac for the above scenario?

2. If i did choose a Mac - I'm not sure whether to purchase the PC or Apple version of Dreamweaver considering i'd have access to both OS's??? Any suggestions on that one???

3. Also - any additional software that i should look for besides Dreamweaver for new website creation/development. I would like to make sure that this machine is well equipped out of the gate to handle web design from the get-go.

4. Any websites that you would recommend to a beginner to learn the basics of HTML, CSS, Flash, etc...?

Would appreciate your comments/thoughts/suggestions!

Thanks!!!

1. i always prefer pcs because i think it's the inside that counts. for the same price point, pcs are more powerful than macs.

2. in terms of compatibility, unless you intend on buying more macs, then the pc version will probably be more versatile.

3. dreamweaver should be enough. it's software that was actually created for the sole purpose of web design, not other random word processing or programming.

1. i like pc, also worked with mac before when i was in the printing press.
2. dreamweaver works best with pc, macs are expensive. pc can output the same thing but less in price.

Switch over to a Mac. You'll just find everything to be easier, quicker, smoother, etc. etc.

If you switch to a Mac, buy the Mac version. Let me give you an example. I know someone who was a hardcore windows user. He's a programmer. He bought a Mac when he heard he can run Windows on it, he saw it as two in one as most people do. In the beginning, he found himself constantly switching back and forth from OSX to Windows. If I ask him whens the last time he booted up Windows TODAY...I guarantee you he won't remember.

Unless you have a particular reason to need/want a Mac, stick with Windows. I have used OS X and it's nothing special (then again, I use Linux so my view could be tainted :p).
