Apparently, Web.com is entering the domain aftermarket and auction space by purchasing the popular NameJet brand.

For me, web.com represents a brand which typically preys upon the non-savvy consumer from every level of their corporate existence. Typically, they would like to sell $40/yr .com registrations and offer a plethora of one-size fits all website services to non-technical users.

I can see the appeal of being able to offer premium names to their client base, but was interested how some of the more veteran Domainers viewed the acquisition.

There are a more of these types of registrars around now than there were in past...going after the 'new' domainers and small time investors that don't know any better seems to be a trend (they must have attended the same one day seminar at an icanny event. :xf.smile:)

It seems some are changing their business model to do what you just describe. They may do well in the short term but I don't think they have a really bright future holding to this strategy.

Web.com always owned 50% of NameJet, they bought out their partner.

NameJet launched in 2007 as a joint venture between eNom, Inc., a subsidiary of Tucows, and Web.com subsidiary, Network Solutions, LLC. Like SnapNames, NameJet has exclusive partnerships with top domain name registrars across the globe and helps domain professionals, businesses and individuals acquire valuable domain names, including those that have recently expired.

Good points Boxio, my main concern would be what this means for pre-release, competition always favors the consumer.

Usually when a company spends big bucks to buy out their partner, they look to crank up the money making machine to get their investment back as soon as possible.

So I guess GoDaddy decided to stay in the shadows of the Namescon auction. Good.

I don't trust :poop:Web.com:poop: since I heard that buckled to pressure to give away France.com to the French government, a domain that was hosting a legitimate multi-million dollar business and didn't even have the courtesy to inform the original owner.

I think NetSol and web.com might be one of a few registrars that don’t have representative @ NamePros, correct?

look like They don’t listen and care about how domainers say and suggest. They don’t see pain. They don’t offer help. Year after year, things never change.

They build their business on people’s suffering. They don’t care, they laugh, they hate people spend less, they block ppl from joy and freedom. They dominate, they control, they hurt.

As long as jonathan tenenbaum is the admin of namejet, it would be the same :poop: ahahahahahaha!! @NameJetGM

Hopefully Web.com realize the poor management skills that jonathan has, and Fired him early 2019 and that would be a very very excellent news! lmao! :xf.grin::xf.laugh::ROFL::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

jonathan tenenbaum should start looking for a new job, Big changes on namejet are coming soon! It seems all the emails that I sent to Web.com were finally showing the results that everybody want...

equity78, re-read what you just posted. If you need any help, just let me know. If you were being sarcastic, I like you even more, but I don't get the sense that you were.

Have no idea what you are talking about, it seemed that some were making it like Web.com sucks and they are going to own NameJet now, my point was they always owned 50% so for those who don't like Web.com they were in the game.

The point is that there is a huge difference in being a 50% owner and being a 100% owner.

True but on the expiry side Web.com was bringing the better inventory to the table vs Tucows, the old time NetSol stuff has always been the best. Scott Pruitt and Jonathan will probably continue to run things so I don't expect much change. Now they might want to increase commission % or min bids, hopefully Web.com leaves all the pricing alone.
