Hey,

Ok, there is alot of hype about "Web 2.0".
So, in your opinion, what do you class "Web 2.0" as/for?

We all know Web 2.0 has absolutely nothing to do with Design, so, lets leave those arguments out. :hehe:

For me,
I'd say it's all about,

User Interaction,
Intergration,
"AJAX",
Services and unique ideas.

What's your thoughts on Web 2.0? :tu:

You're still very wrong there :imho:

I'll quote what i posted a while back:
"2.0" is not about the languages or technology, it is about how it is used.

Ajax is the obvious, a long with using CSS instead of tables (where appropriate ;)), add in to that accessibility, matching the user needs (design), increased user interaction and a decent amount of trend following and we have your so called "2.0".

I can't agree that a good portion of what is seen as 2.0 is not about design, because it is lol. "2.0" designs have increased accessibility standards and work more towards the user (and to an extent browser) needs than to just looking pretty.

Design is not all of it, but it is a factor...one of many. The immidiate "onsluaght" on large text, pink, green and javascript heavy designs that are floating about it not 2.0, that is a fad just as the rest that have come and gone over the years.

The silly part of 2 .0 will drop at some point and the important stuff such as user interaction, accessibility, user needs and all that will follow.

Remember "2.0" (or rather the technologies used within it) are not new, AJAX especially has been around for years - it's simply a javascript technique - what "2.0" improves on is the sensible and appropriate use of them.

It's about putting together concepts that have been in use for years and years, using larger fonts and reflections, and calling it something new. I don't understand what's new about any of this except for the excellent "tag" concept, but even that is old (meta keywords).

Matthew.

Reilly came up with the term Web 2.0, and didn't even hint about design.

Users that are new to developing, get Design confused with Web 2.0.
Mainly, because...
All the newish sites take to a certain style, and... Web 2.0 sites are new right...and design tend to get associated with Web 2.0, but infact, it's not even close.

whether it's supposed to be or not, I think Web 2.0 and the designs that go with it have a lot to do with each other. Accessibility in design IMHO seems to be rising in importance, while user-friendliness is beginnaing to take precedence over first-time opinions of "oh that looks cool".

True, however would you not ten do agree that the definition of 2.0 has changed considerably since its "creation"? I'm sure when Reilly came up with the term he had a clear mindset of what it was intended to resemble however there is no denying there are fundamental design differences in key areas between a so called "1.0" website and a "2.0" website.
