This is a picture I took about 4 years ago. It's a Cicada in the very last stage of moulting. It was nearly ready to fly when I spotted it. I ran inside to grab my camera and was only able to shoot a few pictures before it flew away. After it flew off, I carefully removed the dry skin from the tree and I still have it in a jar on my desk.

A lot of people call these "locusts", especially around my neck of the woods. Here's a link to the Cicada wikipedia article... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada About halfway down the page (on the right), you can see a time-lapsed video of a Cicada moulting.

Thanks for your votes and comments guys! The pic is displayed small on Picture.com, but that's just the way they do things. It's actually very large. I guess they don't want unauthorized users ripping copyrighted pictures off their site. If anyone wants to see it bigger, I'll put it up on the thread with a watermark.

Yeah, I kinda figured the book "anthology" was a vanity book. I didn't buy it or any of the other crap they offered me, but some people do win prizes on these type of sites. A friend of mine won a small vacation (hotel, dinners) with a poem she submitted (which wasn't that great) to a site. They have winner's lists on picture.com, so I guess if your picture is better than average, you may be chosen at random.

Oh well, let's see how it goes. Thanks for the info. Don't worry... they won't get a penny from me.
