Hello All,

Recently I put up two "voip" names for appraisal, and I must say that I was surprised at the lack of interest in voip in general - regardless of my names.

Given that ebay has just paid £2.2 billion for Skype (a company that made only £3.9 million last year) I would have thought that it would tell us something.
Skype are signing up 150,000 people every day and the pace is accelerating.

When you can call Australia for the same price as a call to someone in the next room, using voip, people will obviously sign up.
Some experts are predicting the end for BT etc.

The financial page of one British national newspaper goes as far as to say "It is beginning to look like a re-run of the dotcom boom"

I'd be interested in your views.
Thankyou to any replies.

I agree, VOIP is the future. Why pay hundreds for the old fashioned way when you can do the same for free using a different system?
I am personally going to fully convert as soon as it gets more popular with my friends and stuff. Popularity with these kind of thing will increase exponentially.
Interesting tactic on using this to profit from domains, i'm learning new things every day..:)

wont quite be the end of BT seeing as though BT own all the hardware which voip runs on :)

I've got a $3,000 bid on one of my VoIP names on afternic, but I'm certainly not going to sell it that low..
Developing a VoIP news site now, and Adsense pays me over $2 pr click there (Overture bids are up to $6 pr click).

So VoIP (and MoIP) seems to be getting more and more popular now.. :)

voip is in the infancy stage. whats interesting is the sea of change in the last year to a free model. skype changed everything. phone calls can be free. in network calls can be free. who is in the network? millions of "free" users. the upsell for skype is the out of network call. what a great business model. vonage as well as other traditional voip services are now having to change to survive. the free call is here to stay and is expanding into the cell/mobile market. i speculated in "free" voip names and i think its a decent speculation. free now seems to be the "keyword" for phone services..time will tell.

A slight problem with Voip, is that there is so much competition, that prices are being driven down so fast, I can't see how that can be sustained. Companies need to run at a profit....

People may not realize it, but the landline phones we are using (at least here in the United States) use VOIP.

You're using VOIP :D

It's getting more popular, redleg, and competition will be stiff between skype and its competitors, such as Pipemedia, Vonage, Sipgate - wh offer free calls.
Skypes rivals are growing almost daily.

They're not going to do much about it anyways (Skypes). In their current condition, they can lower their rates, add more features, in less time than any of their competitors. (my opinion)

It's the same as e-mail compared to snail mail, which would you rather do? Nobody will use traditional phone lines once VOIP catches on.
