Visiting India

Hi,

I'll be visiting Mumbai on a business trip alone for a week. A couple of questions:

1) How do I get to the office at Empire Complex in Lower Parel from Trident Hotel in Nariman Point? By taxi or auto rickshaw? How much are the fares? How long does it take?

2) Any fast food such as McDonalds or KFC near the Hotel? or any food that suitable for foreigners? The water is no good for foreigners?

3) Any other advice? It's my first time to India.

Thanks in advance.

A warm Welcome to you!
As I live in a different city I may not be able to provide details about the route and fast foods.
However below are some advice:
a) Hire a cab or Taxi which I believe would be more convenient to you. [You may have a joyful ride in Auto-Rickshaw if you have never traveled in it before.] - lol, a couple of years back it was my main mode of transport for personal local trips.
b) You can get the mineral water bottle like Aquafina for drinking.
c) Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city and I am sure you would enjoy your journey here.

Also I believe you can find someone from DP itself who can help you about the locality.
Have a good journey!

Krishmk this forum is NP dude..!
well I think you wont be able to travel to rics but its better and recommended to hire taxi's
Taxi services are cheap and would cost you from 1$ to 10$ max!!!!
10 is the max that i pay to get from one end of the city to the other.
even i wont be able to tell you the time or the distance as i stay at the extreme end... Navi Mumbai.
Its Better to take a travel book which costs no more than 1 or 2$ and act as if its not the 1st time you are traveling in India
you would get 3 to 5 Bislery/aquafina bottels (mineral) for no more than 1$ recommended to buy from a shop rather than buying it from a hotel for obvious reasons.
there are many places that you could have dinner/lunch but dont forget to get down to earth and have your breakfast at some local hotel. They may or maynot be clean but i can bet that they would provide better meals as compared to 5stars but thaz just to tryout once.

Welcome & Enjoy

Hi,

Welcome to India, I am trying best to answer your questions.

1) How do I get to the office at Empire Complex in Lower Parel from Trident Hotel in Nariman Point? By taxi or auto rickshaw? How much are the fares? How long does it take?
Mumbai is divided into two parts for Use of Auto Rickshaw or Public Taxi (in Black and yellow color). Auto Rickshaw are permited in Suburb and till Bandra, while Taxis ate permitted every where in Mumbai. Here is link for Taxi Fare (Yellow Black color) for Mumbai. But I will advice not to use these taxis as there are chances of cheating (Some times meter tampering). You can Hire a privet cab like Meru, Hertz etc. Ask your Hotel to book one for you. These privet cabs are not expensive. These will also give you the comfort of AC.

Your both Hotel and office is in so called Town area, So you will not spend much time in Traffic I Hope ;)).

2) Any fast food such as McDonalds or KFC near the Hotel? or any food that suitable for foreigners? The water is no good for foreigners?
There are many fast foods joints avaiable near your Hotel and also to your Office. Howerver there is on shopping mall, Atria Mall near to your Office, where you will get these kind of hangouts and also the shopping.

Avoid out side food, You are welcome to try Indian Food only if you have office colleague to guide you in that area.
Couple of places where you can try Indian food which will suite your test (not spicy) is Mahesh Lunch Home (Fort Branch), BambayBlues (at Kala Ghoda). I had been these hotels and they are very good. At least I can recommend you. Both are near to your Hotel.

Since you are for week or so, always used packed drinking water.

3) Any other advice? It's my first time to India.
Ask your hotel to book Taxi for you from Airport to Hotel.
Manson (Rainy season) is starting so you might experience some shower, Avoid eating and drinking to unknown places (roadside). always ask your Hotel reception in case if you need any information. People in India are friendly, Sometimes they might become very friendly which will annoying to you. Do not travel alone during night hours.
Enjoy,

Kedaar
