Very strange. They cannot be awarded a SM on a name that has no demonstrable history of use. dotMobi registry whois shows video.mobi reserved as a Premium and not registered to Cingular. Definitely a controversial reach by Cingular and subject to challenge imo.

Yeah, when I first saw this post I was pissed at Mobi. But after thinking about the situation, I figured all of the backers/investers were given some trump card to use.

I guess Rick should have invested his 200k in Mobi and they might have given him flowers.mobi for free

We are called "cyber-squaters" by those bigboys but could
that bigboy be a "trademark-squater"?

If they do not officially own the intellectual property rights to those
domains how can a trademark be granted in good faith?

The Domain Gurus hast shown us the way to file quick trademarks on generic terms in Botswanna or beneluxemborginlaudermeister or wherever, even if we have NO history of prior use (as required in the US), nor even the slightest hint of an actual product. They give awards to these inovative leaders at the domainer conferences.
