For the PC users out there...

What video editing software do you use?
Is it easy to use?
Are you happy with it?
How much did it cost?

Thanks guys...I'm looking for a video editing software and not sure what to buy :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Vegas Pro is good as well as Corel's Video Editing software.
I didn't buy Vegas Pro but my gf is learning/using it for her Film class. It comes heavily suggested as the cheapest/best alternative to the pro software.
Corel is just a suggestion from people I chat with.
They're also fairly cheap compared to the software the pro's use.

I have Adobe Premiere Pro - the learning curve is about as steep as trying to navigate the space shuttle and LoiloScope - interesting free editor that I also have to figure out, but the learning curve is by far lower than Premiere.

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro for the past 5 years. It's a great program once you get past the learning curve, which by the way is much easier to learn today than it was 5 years ago, thanks to all the tutorials and info available in the internet.

many people swear by adobe premiere pro, but i found that unless you have liek a supercomputer (or just a new one i guess...) encoding the video takes HOURS. (literally, i have a 2.4ghz p4 w/ 1.5gb ram and it said 11 hours to encode a 2 minute video...). it's also ridiculously expensive.

i HIGHLY recommend Corel VideoStudio Pro X2. (Used to be Ulead VideoStudio Pro X2). It is very very simple to use (i was able to learn how to use even the "advanced" functions within 10 minutes of playing around) and it has the flexibility of an advanced editor (such as layered audio, video-in-video, transitions, overlays, etc). also, the program is ridiculously fast for a video editing program. i was able to 1) import 2gb worth of raw video on my computer (same specs as above) OVER LOGMEIN (remote access over internet, so computer was taxed already w/ online remote control), and then exporting a 15 minute video took only about 20-30 minutes at reasonable quality. it also has support for blu-ray and other hd formats, so id strongly suggest it. price is also very cheap for such a great program, and as always, the internet shall always "have it for cheaper" (as mentioned before hehe...)

To me, it really depends on what you need to accomplish.. sometimes it's easier to find one app that will do a single task exceptionally well vs a "jack of all trades" that is only mediocre and usually overpriced.

Always match your tools to the job at hand, never the other way around.

I just need something that will allow me to add basic text before, after and during a video. I tried using win movie maker but the text appears on a blue screen which i don't like, would prefer black.

Besides that be able to cut and paste sections of video.

Nothing too fancy :)

You can change the background of windows media by simply adding a graphic to the slide. You can do it all black and add the graphic or you can add crazy pictures. Etc.

Windows media player is fine for what you're asking for. I wouldn't spend to find an alternative unless it's free.

Good point. I didn't think about creating a graphic and putting into the slide. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that tonight :)

No problem, let me know if you need help getting that done. I had to do it a lot for business class presentations.

I like Sony Vegas for editing videos on multi-layer. For quick results and without frills, Corel Video is the way.
