Hi guys, new member here. Let me know what you think:

VectorMethod.com

Wasn't purchased with the intent of re-selling, but hey. Could be used for an Adobe Illustrator user community, blog, tutorial site of some kind. Originally was the name of a b2b company that a buddy and myself were false-starting.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place to learn, so be sure to check out some of the areas of NP.

One of the things people do when the appraise is use some tools on the net like google.com and adwords.google.com.

Using google, we type (in quotes) "vector method" in the the google search box, and find that about 181,000 pages are using that exact phrase in the google results. That is good for a technical term. I have some technical terms that only return a quarter of that volume that pay well.

The next thing you would want to know is "how often do people actually search for that exact phrase in google". adwords.google.com shows the following:

Advertiser competition: 0
avg search volume: 25% (in googles relative terms)

The search volume is "ok" but there is no adword competition. That means advertisers are not bidding/competing on google for the exact phrase "vector method".

What this means is that for ppc ads on parked pages, the expected return will be small. A lot of people around hear (resellers) look at expected revenue for parking in valuing a domain. Of course there are other ways to make money besides ppc ads on parked pages. There are probably not going to be a lot of people clamoring for the domain, but you may find an end user with interest. I am a math geek, and the "vector method" caught my attention, but finding buyers may be hard. What this means is that to a reseller, the value would be low, like $xx to low $xxx. Perhaps a developer of algorithms may pay more -- you just never know for sure until a sale closes.

There are some free appraisal sites around. Estibot.com is probably the best, and it says $370. Be careful with these automated free appraisals.

Again, welcome to NP.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Especially npcompete, great stuff. Would it be easier to sell the domain if I did develop something catering to what the folks searching for "vector method" are looking for and built up some traffic, maybe even revenue? Or do aftermarket buyers prefer to buy a domain that has never had a site built on it?

Most aftermarket buyers would prefer to see some history of revenue and traffic, so I would say development would be preferred.

Be sure to also consider things beyond photoshop. There are a lot of math geeks in this world too... for example the ones developing the algorithms for photoshop!
