I'm looking to start a forum with 5 or 6 divided subforums, something like:

--
-public area

-private area1
-private area2
-private area3

-mod only area
-admins only area
--
where private area1 users can't see private area2 theards and vice versa.

I think Vbulletin can do it, but don't know which way is the easier and more stable. Is there any plugin with this feature out of the box? or any other forum software to do it better?

vBulletin can do this, it's simple.

You will have to create usergroups for the Private1, Private2, and so on.

Allow usergroup Private 2 to view Privateforum2 and block them from other forums. You just have to mess with you're usergroups and forum permissions. It's simple once you get into the adminstrative control panel.
