Hey,

MyBB is 90% like Vbulletin. And it have lots of features (as vbulletin have).

I am not gonna buy any more licenses for my next forums. But i will use mybb instead ;).

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The only thing that is missing is the non-member support :D

Also MyBB doesn't have vB's great plugin/product system (yet).

After a bad experience with MyBB which involved hacking + update + more hacking we moved away from MyBB...it really doesn't match up to vB...and you will see that when using it on your own websites.

Although MyBB is progressing...you cannot compare it to vB. :hehe:

It doesn't even come close. ;)

MyBB comes closer to vB than any other free softwares though.

MyBB > SMF imo.

I chuckle when I see this kind of post, MyBB isn't close to vbulletin. No doubt they are trying there best to make it look like vbuletin but looking and matching are 2 different things.. I ran Mybb, SMF,Phpbb all of em before I purchased Vbulletin. I can assue you Mybb isnt Vbulletin..Not even close..

Haven't tried MyBB but it looks decent. Maybe it sounds like a pipe dream but I do have plans to code a forum that is comparable to vBulletin.

What continues to shock me are all of these free alternatives and the most fundamental features that people want are still mods and hacks instead of built-in options. SEO isn't just for hackers, it should be STANDARD in a good piece of software. That's just my opinion though, and getting a little OT... :)

Could not agree with you more, it has always perplexed me also.
Let me know when (if) you get the forum finished, I would LOVE to beta test it :D

I would love to have another beta tester. Email me, tekime on gmail so I remember.

Seems the other solutions are lackluster because they go in there with the goal of cloning vBulletin, and vBulletin is pretty simple from a user perspective. Okay, we have a forums view, forum view, topic view, private messages, oh yes a calendar some icons and a few other "details". No problem, I can whip that up in a weekend.

But then developers get their hands dirty and realize vBulletin combines many components which demand a solid common architecture, and which have astute attention to detail. Unless the team (or more likely, individual) has a real solid architecture to work from (interfaces, templates, rendering, validation, database, authentication, permissions, users, etc.), it becomes a serious task to code up a real contender. So the project makes concessions along the way, and even with grandiose plans will at best go the way of phpBB and the fifty year release cycle.

Anyway, I'm just ranting now. I'm sort of fired up as I just finished a new script similar to dollarlinking, and am finally finishing 2.0 for my CMS. Code on the brain. :D
