VBulettin is not vBulletin!

Hi, I was reading on the Vbulletin website and I came across this. It caught my eye because my friend got infected by this virus and it did do some damage.

Today we have received numerous reports of people being lured to a site via MSN messages.

The conversation will appear like this:

Quote:
<sender> hey, is this you?
<sender> ulettin.com/[email protected]

Please be aware that this is NOT vBulletin.com! A closer look will reveal that the domain name is VBULETTIN.com, not VBULLETIN.com.

The link provided will attempt to infect your computer with a newly classified virus, which has the tentative name W32.Chod.D.

If you receive a message like the one illustrated here, do not click the link provided!

The vbulettin.com server is not one that Jelsoft controls, but we are making every effort to have it closed down before more people are affected by its activities.

Nothing really, and nothing has happened to my computer. The page redirected to another domain with an error "This account has been suspended..." Will post a screen shot if wanted.

Ok, hopefully the stie got taken down. Sorry again for the hassle. If anything happens, before you reformat you could always try system restore. Best of luck, my apologies again.

Maybe :

1. testing their programming skills and showing off
2. They have a product they are selling (what that is called anti-virus) to kill the virus they themselves made..
3. Taking revenge. They were once a virus victim..

:)

Ussually number 1.

Vaguely remember a couple of years ago a virus went into the wild and caused major damage. When they caught the guy who wrote it he claimed he didn't mean it to get into the wild and did not hand it out. If that is the case and he was the only 1 with it how did it go wild.

Alot of hackers and virus makers seem to think they are the anarchists of the 21st century making a mark on the government etc, they end up looking like juvenil idiots.

Look at the comments at the bottom of this article http://www.thebugs.ws/news/?a=view&id=1495 especially the ones by CybrPirate, I am wondering if he is out of play school yet.

I wish I had the programming knowledge to make a virus. Some people are so lucky. I bet they were like born into a family that does programming or something, and was taught it. People just abuse their skills! :( I wouldn't ever think of making a virus... maybe just some ad-ware to advertise my sites! :)

alot of viruses that are made are not down to the particular person's ability more their ability to point and click. There are tools out there that do it all for you, you just select what effect you want it to have.
