Users, Not so smart...So, Profit!

I work in network support for a very big company I'm sure you all have heard of...thought I should share this.

Yesterday I got a call to unblock a website on our firewall. It was a website for an airport and the users really wanted it back. I figured it happens...I'll check it out and see what the deal is.

I logged on to the domain and it was a PARKING PAGE! It had some targeted links and this page was fooling users into thinking it was an official airport website!

Just wanted to use this example that if you spend a little time on your parking page it can turn into a real resource for people and you can make some serious $$.

Anyway, I kept the site blocked since it had spyware associated pop-ups and gave them the url to the official airport site.

That's how our industry makes $$, and good amount of it, people clicking on links on park pages. For me, when I see a parking page, I immediately realize I mispelled something and ignore the ad links. Do you guys have similar though process?

Yes, enless I see the site I want to get to as a ad link I look to see where I mispelled it at.
