The following from an industry blog earlier today,
"According to RegistrarStats.com the number of .XYZ registration is 1,726,541 compared to .US which has 1,670.478." FASLE ?

Wikipedia and neustar says " .us registrations are 1,795,408 (February 2015)

So .us has more regs than .xyz right?

Different sources often have different counting methodologies. For example some include domains which are at different stages in the delete cycle and others don't. Same for domains with and without nameservers etc.

It doesn't matter that much. .US momentum is down and .XYZ momentum is up. IMHO, .US is a ccTLD and .XYZ is a New gLTD. So you aren't exactly comparing apples with apples. I think .US will continue to go down because of Neustar's .US policies are underwhelming at best. With all the publicity .XYZ got with Googles Alphabet, there might be some momentum left. I don't think Negara's ambitions to make .XYZ and alternative to .COM is realistic. I think when all the free domains are returned to the registry .XYZ registrations will see a big net drop. I'm not a fan of .XYZ in general. But they are much cheaper than some of the much more specific New gTLD's. Now if Negara was to take over .US registry, his marketing skills might be able to turn it around ;)

as @stub pointed out, dot us, is not in same category as dot xyz.

as a cctld, dot us has restrictions on who can own names in the extension, while dot xyz.does not.

imo...

I agree with you that .us and .xyz are different so why the comparison? Ask theDomains they are the ones that posted it. Propaganda anyone. BTW .us momentum is up not down, not long ago lll and nnnn.us would drop and no one would register them, that has changed. Many people on NP value domains for their resale value and .us does not have a market yet, it is too early. In the end the fact is .us is unique because it is the only cctld we will ever have. The wall is crumbling, .com is no longer an option for many American companies as China and others take them away.

Exactly, so with all of .us restrictions it still has 1.7 million registrations.

No - http://www.registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx

.us momentum is up not down,.

No - http://www.registrarstats.com

No

All that with your .com bubble bursting stuff.

.us does not have a market yet, it is too early.

What in the world are you talking about?

If you check my original post I had mentioned the difference between what registrarstats and neustar itself shows. Guess it's pick a source that fits your agenda (not you personally). Don't know what you mean by the.com bubble bursting stuff?

bubble bursting, that was another dude brandon.domains, got you mixed up.

Your first post, look at date, almost a year off - Wikipedia and neustar says " .us registrations are 1,795,408 (February 2015)

So it's gone down, not up in the last year.

Still curious about - ".us does not have a market yet, it is too early."

It's had it's shot. With these new gtlds, why would it get better for .us?

in the end I posted this because .us with all its restrictions should not have been compared to .XYZ, why would TheDomains blog do that? Doesn't take a genius to know why especially when he is co-founder of right of the dot.
.XYZ initially compared itself To .com and said it was better and we see where that got them. Now they are trying to compare themselves to a cctld with many restrictions, really?!

Agree with you on that. As far as U.S. regs, very low percentage for xyz.

for a headline.... maybe just to get visitors to read it, and hopefully one of them will re-post it somewhere else.

it's about analytics, once you realize they shouldn't have been compared, then what's the point?

Wikipedia depends on people to update the pages. Many pages are out of date. RegistrarStats.com counts the number of domain names in the zone file each day. This will always be slightly lower than the actual number of registered domain names. As it stands, the .XYZ gTLD may have more domain names than .US ccTLD.
