As many of you may have read the US Supreme Court ruled today that putting a child rapist to death is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child. I'm very disturbed at this ruling. Here is a link to the story on MSNBC.

A child can be ruined for life but that's not any reason to put someone to death?

Ugh, It was a close 4-5 vote so it wasn't an easy "choice".

I think it's an unfair ruling however.

so what is proportional punishment to someone who had ruined one's whole life?

I wonder if one of these "Justices" had a 6 year old daughter and she was raped what would they decide was fair?

yeah let them taste their own medicine. let's see
of course they decide always in favor of them, that's how justice works here in our country same elsewhere i guess.

It is just unfair. Imagine a guy ruining a little child's life and being put in jail. After his jail term he might just ruin another little child's life. That's just BS for the "Justice" to make such a decision. Maybe a life imprisonment would be the next best idea if they do not want to execute any of the child rapist.

And what about the 18 yr old that "rapes" his 16 or 17 yr old girlfriend? Should they get the death penalty also? I personally think ruling makes sense and each case should be decided on the facts at hand in any case..

I say that a rapist should have life in prison. I don't believe in the death penalty...

the ruling was prompted by the case against Patrick Kennedy, 43, who was sentenced to death for the rape of his 8-year-old stepdaughter in Louisiana. We aren't talking about teens. The Ruling took away the death penalty in all cases.

i agree with the above...
normally i'd agree that anybody that rapes a child deserves capital punishment, but the law isn't too clear on what rape is and what a child....not only like, but like all the laws, i think this one could be manipulated anyway people see fit.

a 'child' can be anybody under 18 years old.
