Hello everyone,

Does anyone know how I can activate a U.S. telephone number while the business is in Europe? And what about the postal address, is this possible too?

I can think of a couple of ways.

You can get something like Vonage which would give you a US phone number and the phone can be anywhere with a high-speed Internet connection. I think you can have this with Skype also, but with Vonage you have a small box you plug your phone into. You don't need a computer.

The other option is to get an 800 or toll-free number in the US that can forward to your main number. This is a very good option for business. I have a cheap phone card that also provides a free 800 number. I just have to pay a low rate for the calls that I get.

For a postal address, you will need an agent in the US or find a "remailing service", if they still exist.

why not establish an agent there? That will solve your problem.

I have a US phone number for a business through GWA telecom - there is no monthly costs, is a 1-877 number and I just pay for the forwarded calls either to answerphone or my landline here in Australia - works in Europe too.

Skype, Google Voice, Yahoo Voice can all provide you with a US phone number. As for the mailing address, that is a little more complicated because of legal concerns. There are many foreign companies that hire "assistants" in the states to maintain post office boxes for them and foreward correspondance to the international address. This is not the best idea I have come across and because of US foreign policy and regulations through the US Patriot Act and the Dept. of Homeland Defense, many US citizens are not willing to participate in this type of dealing, even with legitimate companies. As for remailing services, you could certainly check out this option, I know it used to be a common practice but have not heard of it happening for some time. You could also license a foreign LLC in the states and give some credibility to the prospect when attempting to hire an agent in this country.
