Can somebody tell me if there is a 10 euro fee per domain when you want to change the email address of your account at www.united-domains.de ?

Their support/FAQ states that you have to pay 10 euro if you change the owner of the domain or if you change the contact (postal) address for the WHOIS of the domain.

However, their FAQ at one point states you pay 10 euro for any change of WHOIS data (including email address) but at another FAQ page they state you can easily change password and email address in the customer login, while no mentioning of extra costs are named.

So how does it work now? Do you only pay the 10 euro if you change the postal address or domain owner, or also if you change the email address?

I have several domains with them and so far been very pleased with their service. Paying 10 euro for ownership transfer doesn't bother me (for the domains I intend to sell the person buying them just needs to calculate that 10 euro into his offer) but I would be a bit disappointed if it'd also cost money to change the email address of your account.

i dont think there is a contradiction here, no charge for changing account details but there is a charge for changing whois (they are two different things)

well, changing email address is changing WHOIS, not? Or is that considered changing account details (whereas changing postal address is considered changing WHOIS details) ?

I have relocated frequently the last couple of years, so to avoid the 10 euro fee for every relocation, I have signed up with the property I own in Belgium instead of with the current address I live in. The property belongs to me so it is a valid address, and that way I avoid to pay 10 euro each time I move house.

However, I would want to know if changing your email address is also costing 10 euro or if this is considered free of charge (unlike change of address)

That change of domain owner is costing money doesn't matter. The person buying the domains will just have to calculate that small fee in the offer he is making me.

your whois email for all the domains in an account doesnt necessarily reflect the account email address

any change to the whois of a domain will cost 10euro

any change to the account details will not

I somewhat understand, yet still it remains a bit confusing. At United-Domains.de you log in using your email address and your password.

Can you change the email address used for logging in (email address to which the account is linked, to which you can have lost passwords sent etc) without extra charge or do they charge 10 euro for that?

Apart from this unclear issue, I still like United Domains a lot. Easy interface, decent support, good security tools (including faxes for all transfers or change of ownerships) ...

I got a few .EUs there to for the 1EUR promotion, still haven't parked them, don't want to go through the trouble of faxing them approval of DNS change :)

That is no issue for me. I just let them remain on the United Domains DNS until I sold them, while a few domains are not for reselling but for personal use and for those a URL forwarding is fine by me (without need to change nameservers)

So no issues for me. I actually like the paperworks, it gives extra security to the domain. Domain theft is much more difficult when cracking a password isn't enough to get ownership of the domain.

That is strange. So you remain in the WHOIS with the email address you originally signed up with, but for logging in to your account you use another email address?

Also, in case you'd have ever forgotten your password, it'd be sent to the new email address and not to the email address in the WHOIS data?

Do I understand that correctly?

I asked the questions to the support of U.D. and you are spot on with what you were explaining. Must say their support was very responsive and helpful. I do wonder if they are as good and quickly if you ask a question in English, but I speak German fluently so I just wrote them in their own language as I figured this would increase the chances of a rapid reply.

I wonder by the way... they require faxes to be signed before a domain can be changed owners, which I think is excellent protection against hijacking and domain theft. But how do they manually control all faxes to avoid fraude in the documents (anyone can fake a signature in theory and pretend to be the owner) ? I guess they have their means though, as they are one of the most succesful registrars in Germany, you won't get a good reputation if your system has frequent flaws.
