Just got a price inquiry from an end user.
I am thinking $5k. Do you think higher or lower?

First, you'd better make sure it's in your account and accessible. I tried 5 different registrar Whois and they all said 'domain not registered here', which is a strange thing for a whois to say since they should tell the whois of any dot.com even if it's not registered at that registrar.

WhoisRequest says the domain has now dropped this month, and was created in 2007 (and created and dropped before that also).

Verisign and SaferWhois say it is created in 2011, but is in 'redemption period'.

The nameservers do not resolve at all.

No whois, whether Verisign or saferwhois or any registrar whois, will show any owner details. I mean no details at all, even if it were privacy protected.

It appears to be, or have been, registered at 1and1, the worst registrar in the world, and as usual they are messing things up and no whois can seem to read what's going on with this domain.

So like I say, make sure you actually have it live in your account.

Not a great name but an okay one for the right interested buyer. Only regged dot.com, though the dot.org used to be regged for awhile. A general rule of thumb - not always, but generally - is if it's only regged in one extension, the word isn't particularly desirable or valuable.

Don't know the age... either just dropped and then was regged by you this month... or created in 2011... or created in 2007. I'm guessing 2011 is probably correct since that is the Verisign info.

Unchaining is a pleasant word for freedom, breaking free, setting free, going past barriers and limits, redemption, etc etc so any group or company wishing to exemplify those qualities in their domain name might be interested in yours.

But it's truly a wild card and difficult to appraise. It's not a strong word like unchain or unchained, yet I can see its appeal to end users. Hard to say whether they'd pay $500 or $25,000.

However, to be sober and realistic, I think the absolute high price for this would be in the $4 - 5K range... and I think that price is very very optimistic. Personally I'd be happy with anything over 500, but I'd shoot for 2500. But like I say it's a wild card, so some end user might be willing to blow that price out of the water and pay high. You'll have to go with your gut on the valuation, because I predict most of the members here will say much lower than your 5K.

But since they approached you, rather than the other way around, you are well within your rights to simply ask them what their budget is for this domain.

Have you been able to find anything about the buyer? Did you google their email addy and their name?

Good luck :)

Oh, a final note: considering the strange whois problems, perhaps a domainer has noticed them too, somehow gotten your email addy, and is tossing you a fake 'how much' just to see if you still own the name or if it is indeed dropping and maybe they want to try pick it up or dropcatch it. Could be just such a 'feeler' email and not a bona fide offer. Guess you'll find out once you reply :)

Hi Bannen, thanks for your feedback.
I must apologize for even posting.

You reminded me that I let this one expire.
Doh!
Like you, I couldn't see a solid business use.
