The three letter ETH.com domain name is the subject of a new UDRP proceeding at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The domain name ETH.com sold for $20,000 in 2008.

The complainant is listed as ETH Zürich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich). I have never heard of this organization / company prior to seeing the UDRP filing. I did a Google search for a company with that name, and I believe this company uses the ethz.ch ccTLD domain name for its website.

The Complainant is going to lose, provided the Respondent shows up. "ETH" was the former corporate name of the domain registrant.

It's ridiculous. Their company is Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich. Just because it's an acronym, they think they should have it. Maybe The Cheesecake Factory should file for TCF.com..hey, how about CF.com while we're at it! And we're not even talking ETHZ.com, which they already have (BY UDRP) which IS their company name acronym. Huge over-reach, trying to steal. These people are disgusting.

I agree most companies are becoming greedy.

It's definitely reverse hijacking. Since ETH (Ethereum) doubled its market cap to $1 billion dollars in less than 2 weeks, eth.com becomes very sexy to own.

Looks like a classic case of reverse hijacking to me. Would be interesting to see which way the ruling goes.

This is becoming too prevalent in this industry. Any defendant funds setup to fight cases such as this?

The problem here is that ETHZ are from Switzerland along with WIPO. Could this be appealed in an alternative country of arbitration or litigation?
