Typo .nets

I was looking for some typos for a highly visited site (prob one of the top 500 sites) and came across some great typos for a .net extension. The normal site is a .com. Could this be a valuable domain or no?

First of all, welcome to the forum!

If you are registering a typo in .net of a site that is in the "top 500 sites" then you may very well be infringing on either a registered or common law trademark.

Regardless of whether "others" may be doing this, a history TM infringement can be used against you. The courts have repeatedly found that typo's of marks are infringement. While a few bucks from infringing typos can benefit for a short while, a bad reputation stays with you for life.

Typo domains value depends on the amount of traffic it receives: 0 traffic = $0

Unless the dot-com site has a very high alexa rating (myspace, youtube etc) then i wouldn't bother registering it.

And as it's available it usually means the tasters don't want it because it recieved no traffic. Type the domain in domaintools.com and see how many times it has been dropped (if any).
