With tv everywhere, google tv and apple tv all in the news these days, don't you think there is no better time for .tv?
It's just that it's such a natural fit for what's going on.

Neither company is using a .tv domain to promote the product. ".tv" and "tv" are not the same thing.

They are not the same thing - thats for sure.

However, the fallout from convergence is that many companies that would never had considered .TV before are now considering and buying .tv. names to brand their sites as forward thinking and multi media. Google TV etc is just an in the face reminder that convergence of tv and internet has moved forward too far for it to turn tail and fail.

This is not the same as 2000. Yes .TV is still a niche, but an ever expanding one as more and more media companies hop on the .tv bandwagon.

I do research on .tv names. The .TV list of sites thread is but a drop in the ocean and certainly are of a number that was only dreamed about 2/3 years ago, never mind ten years ago.

There is no data at all on .tv growth so not sure where these comments are coming from.

In the last few years online video has taken off yet none of the major players use .tv, they may call themselves "tube" or "tv" but they don't use .tv, even Demand Media doesn't use it which says a lot.

The usage that does exist is smaller time stuff, which is the market .tv has always occupied, the biggest examples are sites like Justin.tv, sites that most people have never even heard of.

I see .tv and tv converging into one. It may take some time.....

.tv is still a niche, but why?

My own ass-busting research which is coming on for nine years now. The trend was close to zero growth for five years followed by mediocre growth from 2005 to 2008 and moderate to strong growth from 2008 - 2010.

I would imagine that 2010 to 2012 will continue with .tv trending upwards.

I am not alone in doing my own research. There are others who do it too and have arrived at similar conclusions based upon the data that was analyzed.

I know one thing. It’s relatively easy to flip .tv to enduser, comparing to flipping keywords in .biz, .info, .me, .mobi etc.
I don’t have money to invest in good keyword .com, .net, .org domains, so I’m choosing .tv.
That’s the whole business model from a domainer point of view – and most of us are domainers here.

The nice thing about .TV is that there are hundreds or thousands of endusers for a potential keyword, and all but one got beat out to the .com . If the niche is right, where .TV makes sense, there is a willing market.
