I paid $600 for Politics.pro at SnapNames earlier this year. The guy who bid against me bid $575 so either way you undersold it. Politics.info sold for $15,250 in Nov 08 and Politics.net sold for $35,000 in Jan 08, it's a saleable keyword. I bought it to develop it into a political blog at some point.

Well if that happens Greg then it means the mods here are not doing their jobs, in all fairness to AK someone did criticize the extension he is passionate about.

I think its foolish when alternative extension investors go after one another, the battle is against .com. All alternative extensions are in the same boat in the non domaining community. There are not a ton of them that the public knows, in all honesty I think the public knows more about .tv because they see it, Pandora.tv in Korea, GM.tv in Europe, Tu.tv in the Spanish community, TNT.tv and Mlb.tv in the US.

I think there names that work way better with .tv then .pro such as LCD.tv, any number like Five.tv, adult and entertainment suchs as Girls.tv or Cam.tv.

I think .pro works better than .tv with names such as Advertising.pro or Accounting.pro or Psychologist.pro.

There is no need to argue, alternative extension investors/developers IMO are on the same side even if not the same team. Again IMO.

I wouldn't have joined this discussion had several people not been talking about .pro in the context of it having zero brandability, that made .tv versus .pro brandability fair game.

I have stated many times that .tv is a branch of the internet tree. So are all the other extensions. .com could be the big *ss trunk of the tree for all I care, the branches all still have their particular niches that it fits into and all have the potential to sprout leaves and bear fruit within their niches.

I am growing weary of the p*ssing contest and who's is bigger. I got my investments and that is about it.

I wanna party this weekend, brainstorm and play around with the possibilities available to me. Have fun, every one! I will!

I really have no view for or against .pro other than to wish Mr Campbell all the best with his investments in that extension.

I actually own PRO d0t TV (actually one of my more impressive parked names - and premium free) so feel a little closer to this question than most.

Enjoys the moment - turns - and gets back on with summer. Hope everyone is well.

Yes. I agree with you that .PRO is brandable and it's good to see you here in the mix. The problem is that many extensions are brandable, take .ME (please take it), .TRAVEL, and .FM for example.

However, the fact that these terms are easily identifiable by consumers and brandable has done practically nothing for these TLDs in terms of consumer adoption. Unless the Bing type launches start happening on these extensions, they will remain obscure novelty extensions practically worthless from a pure domaining perspective. IMO.

Alternative extensions are about value, .tv doesn't offer value, a tiny island called Tuvalu in the middle of nowhere which isn't a gTLD certainly doesn't offer global scope.

oh, well. TV is a globally accepted two letter acronym, and hundreds of developed multi-lingual .TVs are coming out every month.

Really?

Then, how .tv produces four, and even five figure sales at the current economical climate?

I did not notice any notable sales for the gTLD .PRO recently, and then I figured out it is one of the weakest gTLDs with just about 35K total registrations to date with the fact that many of these .PRO names are at the hands of speculators and domain investors.

I own about 150+ names, and I'm not a big fan of .PRO. From domaintools registrant search, I noticed that many .PRO domainers own about 1,000+ names. At a very very conservative estimate, if we consider just about 30 of such .PRO investors worldwide, then we can easily understand that out of 35,000+ registered .PRO names, almost every .PRO domain is on the hands of domainers and speculators. Do you think this is a global reach? Absolutely meaningless.

You are arguing against .pro and you have 100 .pros for sale, most of which aren't professions.

Well, you said we are domainers. I diversify my investments in different TLDs whether they yield a profit or not. I invested in almost 15 cctlds including .as, .im, .in, .nl, .de, .ug, .kn, .ai, .es, .se, and almost every gTLD including .PRO. It doesn't mean I'm a big fan of every extension. Most of my investments are speculative.

How can you argue that when you have .pros like Explore.pro and Matrimony.pro in your signature? Where is the profession there?

Simple. I like those keywords, and found them available in .PRO, and are taken in almost every major extension including .TV.

Reread my previous post. I did not say .PRO is only for professionals. I said, "it is suitable for Professionals".

The PRO Registry itself promoting the TLD as:

.PRO Is the First and Only TLD for Professionals and Professional Services!

Matrimony is a big business service here in India. I took explore.pro with the travel industry in mind, which is again a global business.

I am not against .PRO, but I could not agree that the gTLD .PRO is more viable than .TV.

When comparing it with .TV, .PRO lacks global scope without the support for IDNs, and lacks huge customer base due to registry restrictions.

I appreciate your response to my questions regarding TMs. Yes, I agree that TMs create unique brands, but do they assist the growth of a particular gTLD? The answer is NO.

Like you said, Pro works well with many keywords, but the user base is very limited when comparing it with .TV.

As far as .PRO is considered, the only positive thing that I'm taking into account is the gTLD factor, other than that it is one of the weakest TLDs next to .jobs, IMO.

If .TV does not have a global scope, people from non-english speaking countries would have not developed nice .TVs in their own languages. Especially high profile Television channels in each country would have not gone for .TVs if .TV has limited its scope to Tuvalu alone! :music:

Politics is a very good keyword, works well with media related extensions like .TV. I doubt that the owner of politics.tv would consider four figure offers.
