I was just looking over some of Tucows' premium DNs and boy do they have some good ones. One in particular, Tool.com, stood out to me. That's a HUGE one.

I would hate to be the previous owner of these names...

The best thing that Tucows did, was buy Mailbank Inc. (NetIdentity) in 2006 for $18 Million. That was the portfolio of "Surnames". Now keep in mind that many "generic product" domains are also are also Surnames. There was also 90,000 customers that used the service Mailbank had, so Tucows gained all those customers as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tucows is an interesting read.

Currently, I am running a scan from one of there servers, so I will see what other "Gems" they have that they didn't list.

Great info.

Let us know if you find any other good ones in the scan!

Let me work on this link again.. sorry

Here is the file that I scanned. A couple in the list are not owned by Tucows as the owners just happen to have the domain on the mailbank server. Also to note, .org's are not on this list.

There are also a couple that are on the bottom of the list, that were timed out that did not show age. Like Tester.com, Quan.com, Ho.net, Anger.com, Stacey.net etc.

I don't understand how I could monetise names for e.g. Powell, Adams, etc.

Jewellers.com particularly stood out for me.

Indeed they did buy out NetIdentity, a fantastic acquisition.

9. Registrar shall abide by any ICANN-adopted policy prohibiting or restricting warehousing of or speculation in domain names by registrars.

(Tucows) had over 150,000 Internet domain names in its private domain name portfolio

Mailbank generates income from selling advertising on the websites of the name-based domains and also from customers who want e-mail accounts with their surname as the domain.
