Ok, I'm not complaining since I know it's the risk you take when putting names up for auction, but could anyone tell me why this name sold so low?

https://www.namepros.com/domains-for-sale-auctions/808834-n-6-net-11-year-old.html

According to: http://3character.com/priceguide.html -- L-N.net names should sell for a minimum of $30, and that's for the worst ones like Q-0.net I imagine.

So why was I only able to get $3 out of a much superior one to something like Q-0.net!?

Just trying to understand! :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
  1. There are exceptions to the rule
  2. But there is no rule really, patterns maybe
  3. The circumstances, timing, and exposure also play a role
  4. Last but not least, somebody has to see the potential or possible meaning for real-world usage
Personally I wouldn't pay regfee so the benchmark is even lower for me :)

Unless its a good solid generic, gets type in traffic, or an LLL, or NNN, your probably not going to get much selling to resellers and domainers. Better to find names and search for end users, or names you can develop and figure out how to monetize.

Well that's what I'm doing with most my names, just thought I'd try and flip this one to see how it went - which wasn't very well lol

dude,

when you use a flawed guide, to guide you.....what else can you expect?

those names don't have any friggin value, higher than a $1.99 coupon code.

imo....

LOL what makes the guide flawed? Seems to be constantly updated and a lot of research put into it I imagine.

The issue is that you'll have end user sales influencing that data. Of course you have a chance of selling that domain for $30+ if you advertise it and you get someone who is interested - but it may take 3-4 years to make that sale in which case you've really just wasted your time. You'll very rarely get the maximum value from a domain through a generic auction.

I wouldn't personally pay anything for the domain and I would imagine a lot of other domainers would take the same view as it's difficult to see potential end users or the potential to flip it for a considerably higher figure.

I doubt he includes end-user data in his figures as he states it is for wholesale value.

You're lucky you got 3 bucks for it. There is one born every minute.

The problem here is that you do not know what the cross section was for the report done for that pricing guide. You need to realize that you held a NamePros auction on that domain and that pricing guide was not solely based upon NamePros sales. That pricing guide I am sure takes in data from a much larger cross section from sales all over the internet.

There are other things that come into play when selling a domain for that price. Are you advertising the auction to only namepros members or are you advertising it on a larger scale? Do those types of domains sell better during certain months of the year? There are factors that come into play that alter the anticipated result of any sale.
